Fowler is a small town in St. Lawrence County, New York. It is located in the southwestern part of the county. In 2020, about 2,142 people lived there.
The Town of Fowler is southwest of Canton. It is also southeast of Gouverneur.

History of Fowler Town
Fowler became an official town in 1816. It was created from parts of the towns of Rossie and Russell.
The very first settler was James Haile. He was a general and bought land in 1807. Mills were built on the river that same year. A furnace, which is a type of factory, started working in 1833.
Many families left the area during the War of 1812. But after the war, in 1820, more people began to settle in Fowler.
How Fowler Got Its Name
The town was named after Theodosius Fowler. He was a captain in the American Revolution. He also owned a lot of land in the area.
In 1827, some of Fowler's land was given to the Town of Edwards. Later, in 1836, Fowler lost more land to Pitcairn, New York. By 1870, the town had 1,785 people living there.
Modern Developments
In 1987, the Hollow Dam was built. It is on the West Branch of the Oswegatchie River. This dam helps to create 900 kilowatts of electricity.
Geography of Fowler
Fowler covers about 60.7 square miles (157 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a small part, about 1.2 square miles (3.1 square kilometers), is water.
The southern border of the town touches Jefferson and Lewis counties. The Oswegatchie River flows through the northern part of the town.
Two main roads meet in Fowler. New York State Route 58 crosses New York State Route 812 near the village of Fowler.

Communities and Places in Fowler
- Balmat – A small community south of Fowler village. It is located on County Road 24 and NY-812.
- Fowler – This is the main village in the center of the town. It is where Routes NY-58 and NY-812 meet.
- Emeryville – A community northeast of Fowler village. It is on County Road 22, next to the Oswegatchie River.
- Fullerville – A community northeast of Balmat on County Road 24.
- Hailesboro – A community in the northwest part of the town on NY-58. It is named after General James Haile, an early landowner.
- Kellog Corners – A place southwest of Balmat on County Road 24. It is also south of Sylvia Lake.
- Little York – This used to be a community near Fowler village.
- Pikes Corner – A community at the western edge of the town on County Road 5.
- Sylvia Lake – A beautiful lake west of Balmat. It was once known as "Lake Killarney."
- West Fowler – A community west of Fowler village on County Road 22.
