Frances Bean Cobain (born August 18, 1992) is an American visual artist and model. She is famous as the only child of Nirvana's lead singer, Kurt Cobain, and Hole's lead singer, Courtney Love. Frances also manages the rights to her father's name and image.

Early Life and Family

Frances Bean Cobain was born on August 18, 1992, in Los Angeles, California. Her parents are Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. She was named after Frances McKee, a guitarist from the band The Vaselines. Her godparents are Michael Stipe, the lead singer of R.E.M., and actress Drew Barrymore.

Frances's middle name, "Bean," came from her father. He thought she looked like a kidney bean in her sonogram photo. This photo was even used on the cover of Nirvana's 1992 song "Lithium."

When Frances was very young, her parents faced some challenges. For a short time, she was cared for by other family members.

On April 1, 1994, Frances visited her father at a recovery center. This was the last time she saw him. One week later, he passed away. After this, Frances was raised by her mother, aunts, and paternal grandmother. She spent her childhood in Seattle and Los Angeles.

Frances later attended Bard College, where she focused on studying art.
