Francisco José Veiga Rodríguez was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1958. He is a Spanish historian, journalist, and writer. He is a professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He has taught there since 1983. His main focus is on Eastern Europe, countries that used to be part of the Soviet Union, the Balkan Peninsula, and Turkey. He also writes articles for newspapers like El Periódico de Catalunya and El País.

Francisco Veiga is a historian who studies different periods of history. He has written about the time between World War I and World War II, known as the Interwar period (1918–1939). He also studies the Cold War (1948–1991), which was a long period of tension between the United States and the Soviet Union. He also looks at the time after the Cold War, from 1991 to 2008.

He has researched how nationalism (strong pride in one's country) and extreme political groups grew after the Ottoman Empire fell apart. He has written for newspapers like Avui and El Observador de la Actualidad. He is well-known for his articles in El Periódico de Catalunya and El País.

His Work as a Journalist

As a journalist, Francisco Veiga has covered many important events. He wrote about the Romanian Revolution in 1989. He also reported on the Yugoslav Wars (1991–2001), which were conflicts when Yugoslavia broke apart. He has written about political changes in the Balkan Peninsula and in Turkey. He discussed Turkey's efforts to join the European Union.
