Frank Wilson III (born November 5, 1973) is a well-known American football coach. He currently works as the associate head coach and running backs coach for the Louisiana State University (LSU) football team. Before joining LSU again, Wilson was the head football coach at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) from 2016 to 2019. He also coached at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana from 2020 to 2021.

Frank Wilson's Playing Days
Frank Wilson played college football as a running back. He started his college career at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. During his first year there, he was recognized as an honorable mention All-American.
He then moved to Nicholls State University. At Nicholls State, he was named honorable mention all-conference as a running back in his second year. He also played as a defensive back. Wilson graduated from St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Frank Wilson has had a long and successful career coaching football at different levels.
Coaching High School Football
Wilson was the head football coach at O. Perry Walker High School in New Orleans, Louisiana, from 2001 to 2003. During his time there, he led the team to the 2002 Class 4A state finals. He was honored as the 2002 Coach of the Year for Louisiana by the NFL. Other coaches also voted him the Louisiana Class 4A Coach of the Year.
Many of his players went on to play college football. In his three years at O. Perry Walker, 22 players earned Division I scholarships. In 2002, 11 players signed with Division I schools, which was a very large number for one high school. Before this, he was an assistant coach at Edna Karr High School from 1997 to 2000. In 2004, Wilson also worked as the director of athletics for the New Orleans Public School System.

Wilson has coached at several major universities.
Ole Miss Coaching Role
From 2005 to 2007, Wilson was the running backs coach at the Ole Miss under head coach Ed Orgeron.
Southern Miss Coaching Role
In 2008, Wilson worked as the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Southern Mississippi. He worked under head coach Larry Fedora.
Tennessee Coaching Role
In 2009, Wilson was the wide receivers coach at the University of Tennessee. He coached under head coach Lane Kiffin.
First Time at LSU
Before becoming a head coach, Wilson was a very important part of the Louisiana State University coaching staff. From 2010 to 2015, he was the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. He also served as the associate head coach for the Tigers.
Wilson was known as one of the best recruiters in college football. In 2011, Rivals.com named him the National Recruiter of the Year. In 2014, NFL.com called him the top recruiter in all of college football. Scout.com also recognized him as the SEC Recruiter of the Year in 2015. Many LSU players he helped recruit were later chosen in the NFL Draft.
Leading the UTSA Roadrunners
On January 14, 2016, Frank Wilson became the new head coach for the UTSA Roadrunners. He took over from Larry Coker. In his first season, Coach Wilson led UTSA to their first-ever bowl game.
His team also had a very strong recruiting class. According to Rivals.com, UTSA's recruiting class was ranked #1 in their conference, C-USA. This was a big achievement for the program. He coached UTSA until December 1, 2019.
Coaching the McNeese State Cowboys
On January 16, 2020, Wilson was hired as the head coach for the McNeese State Cowboys. He coached there for two seasons. He resigned on December 7, 2021.
Returning to LSU
On December 7, 2021, Frank Wilson returned to Louisiana State University. He was hired as the associate head coach for the LSU Tigers. He continues to serve in this role, helping to lead the team.
