Frank Wilson III, born on November 5, 1973, is a well-known American football coach. He currently works at Louisiana State University (LSU). There, he is the associate head coach and helps train the running backs. Before this, he was the main coach for the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and McNeese State University.

Frank Wilson's Playing Days
Frank Wilson played college football at Nicholls State University. He was a talented running back. During his second year, he was recognized as an honorable mention all-conference player. This means he was one of the best players in his league.
He was also named a preseason all-conference player in his junior and senior years. Before Nicholls State, he played his first year at Geneva College in Pennsylvania. There, he was named an NAIA Division II honorable mention All-American. Wilson graduated from St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Frank Wilson's Coaching Career
Coaching High School Teams
From 2001 to 2003, Frank Wilson was the head football coach at O. Perry Walker High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. He led his team, the Chargers, to the Class 4A state finals in 2002.
The NFL honored him as the 2002 Coach of the Year for Louisiana. Other coaches also voted him the Louisiana Class 4A Coach of the Year. He was even a finalist for the 2002 Nike National Coach of the Year award.
During his three years at O. Perry Walker, 22 of his players earned scholarships to play Division I college football. In 2002, 11 players signed, which was the most from any high school in the nation. Before this, he was an assistant coach at Edna Karr High School from 1997 to 2000. In 2004, Wilson also worked as the Director of Athletics for the New Orleans Public Schools.
Coaching College Teams
Ole Miss (2005–2007)
From 2005 to 2007, Wilson coached running backs at the Ole Miss. He worked under head coach Ed Orgeron. He was also a key person in a book called "Meat Market" by Bruce Feldman. This book followed the Ole Miss team during their recruiting season.
Southern Miss (2008)
In 2008, Wilson joined the University of Southern Mississippi. He was the running backs coach and helped find new players as the recruiting coordinator. He worked under head coach Larry Fedora.
Tennessee (2009)
In 2009, Wilson moved to the University of Tennessee. He coached the wide receivers for head coach Lane Kiffin.
LSU (First Time: 2010–2015)
Before becoming a head coach at UTSA, Wilson spent six years at Louisiana State University. From 2010 to 2015, he was the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. He also served as the associate head coach for the Tigers.
Wilson was known for being an amazing recruiter. In 2011, Rivals.com named him the National Recruiter of the Year. NFL.com called him the top recruiter in all of college football in 2014.
In 2015, Scout.com honored him as the SEC Recruiter of the Year. Thanks to his efforts, LSU had a Top 5 recruiting class in 2015. This was the first time since 2002–03 that LSU had back-to-back Top 5 recruiting classes. From 2011 to 2014, 29 LSU players were chosen in the NFL Draft.
UTSA (2016–2019)
On January 14, 2016, Frank Wilson became the new head coach of the UTSA Roadrunners. He took over from Larry Coker. In his first season, Coach Wilson led UTSA to their first-ever bowl game.
After that season, Wilson and his team secured the #1 ranked recruiting class in their conference, C-USA. This was a big deal because UTSA had never ranked higher than 103rd before. He coached UTSA for four seasons. He was fired on December 1, 2019, with an overall record of 19 wins and 29 losses.
McNeese State (2020–2021)
On January 16, 2020, Wilson was hired as the head coach of the McNeese State Cowboys. He replaced Sterlin Gilbert. He coached McNeese State for two seasons. He resigned on December 7, 2021, with a record of 7 wins and 11 losses.
LSU (Second Time: 2022–Present)
On December 7, 2021, Frank Wilson returned to Louisiana State University. He was hired as the associate head coach.
