Frozen is a popular 2013 American computer-animated musical fantasy and comedy movie. It was made by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The movie is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairy tale The Snow Queen.

Frozen tells the story of Princess Anna and her older sister, Elsa, who becomes queen. Elsa has special powers to create snow and ice. The movie also features a funny talking snowman named Olaf. One of the most famous songs from the movie is "Let It Go," sung by Elsa. Frozen was released on November 27, 2013. Famous actors like Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel lent their voices to the main characters.

Movie critics really liked Frozen. It was even nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film.

Story of Frozen

Anna and Elsa are sisters who live in the kingdom of Arendelle. Elsa, who is now the queen, has magical powers over snow and ice. But her powers get out of control, causing an eternal winter in Arendelle. To protect everyone, Elsa runs away and builds her own ice palace.

Anna bravely sets off on a journey through the snow and ice to find Elsa and bring her back. Along the way, Anna meets Kristoff, a friendly iceman, and Olaf, a funny snowman that Elsa brought to life. Olaf dreams of experiencing summer, even though he's made of snow!

Later, a prince named Hans tries to marry Anna. But he only wants to marry her to take over Arendelle. When Hans tries to hurt Elsa, Anna steps in front of him and turns into a frozen statue. Elsa cries for her sister, and her tears of love thaw Anna back to life. Olaf then realizes that true love can melt a frozen heart. With the power of love, Elsa learns to control her icy magic. She brings summer back to Arendelle, and everyone lives happily ever after. Olaf even gets his own personal snow flurry to keep him from melting in the summer heat!

How Frozen Was Made

Plans to make a movie based on The Snow Queen started way back in the 1940s. But the writers couldn't figure out how to tell the story, so the movie wasn't made for a long time. In 2011, the team finally found a story they liked and started making Frozen.

At first, they thought about making Frozen hand-drawn. But they decided to use computer animation instead. It only took two years to make Frozen, which is very fast for a computer-animated movie!

Making Frozen was quite a challenge for the animators. They even traveled to a snowy place in Wyoming to study how real snow behaves. This helped them make the snow in the movie look very realistic. They also used a special computer program to create Elsa's hair. An average person has about 100,000 strands of hair, but Elsa's hair had 400,000 strands!

Songs from the Movie

Frozen is a musical, so it has many great songs! Most of the songs were written by a husband-and-wife team, Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. The background music was created by Christophe Beck. The first song, "Frozen Heart," was made by a South Sami composer named Frode Fjellheim. It's in a traditional Sami style called Vuelie.

Here are some of the songs from Frozen:

  • "Frozen Heart" (sung by a group of icemen)
  • "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" (sung by young Anna)
  • "For the First Time in Forever" (sung by Anna and Elsa)
  • "Love Is an Open Door" (sung by Anna and Hans)
  • "Let It Go" (sung by Elsa; this is the most popular Frozen song!)
  • "Reindeer(s) Are Better Than People" (sung by Kristoff)
  • "In Summer" (sung by Olaf)
  • "For the First Time in Forever (Reprise)" (sung by Anna and Elsa)
  • "Fixer Upper" (sung by the trolls)
  • "Let It Go" (sung by Demi Lovato; played during the end credits)

Cultural Impact

Frozen became incredibly popular, especially with children. Many kids watched the movie so many times that they knew all the songs by heart! Parents, teachers, and even famous people like former UK prime minister David Cameron and actors Amy Adams and Ben Affleck talked about how much their children loved Frozen and its songs.

The movie's popularity also led to a huge demand for Frozen toys and costumes. It was hard to find Frozen merchandise in stores for a while! At Disney Parks, meeting characters like Anna and Elsa became so popular that people would wait for hours. Disney even added new Frozen-themed attractions, like the "Frozen Ever After" ride at Epcot.

The name "Elsa" also became much more popular for baby girls after the movie came out. People searched for Frozen a lot online, and it was named "Movie of the Year" on the Google Play Store.
