Gabriel Fernando de Jesus (born on April 3, 1997) is a Brazilian professional footballer. He plays as a forward for the English club Arsenal and the Brazil national team.
Jesus started his senior club career at Palmeiras in Brazil. There, he was named the Best Newcomer in 2015. He also helped Palmeiras win the Copa do Brasil that year. In 2016, he helped Palmeiras win their first national league title in 22 years.
In January 2017, Jesus joined the English club Manchester City. He won four Premier League titles, three EFL Cups, and an FA Cup with them. In July 2022, he moved to Arsenal.
Before playing for the senior Brazil team, Jesus played for Brazil's youth teams. He reached the final of the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup and won an Olympic gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He made his senior debut for Brazil in September 2016. He played in the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022. He also played in the Copa América in 2019 and 2021, winning the tournament in 2019.

Early life
Gabriel Jesus was born in São Paulo, Brazil. He grew up in a neighborhood called Jardim Peri. His mother, Vera, raised him and his two brothers by herself.
He started playing football on the streets. Later, he joined amateur clubs in his area. His last amateur club was Associação Atlética Anhanguera.
Club career
Palmeiras

On July 1, 2013, Jesus signed a youth contract with Palmeiras. He was the club's top goal scorer that year, scoring 54 goals in 48 matches.
In January 2014, Jesus signed a three-year contract with Palmeiras. He scored 37 goals in 22 games for Palmeiras in the under-17 championship in 2014. This led to offers from many clubs.
Jesus made his first senior team appearance on March 7, 2015. He came on as a substitute in a 1–0 win. He played eight times that season, all as a substitute.
His first professional goal came on July 15, 2015, in a cup match. He scored the only goal in a two-game series. On August 26, he scored two goals to help Palmeiras win 3–2. Four days later, he scored his first league goals in a 3–2 win. Jesus ended the season with four goals in 20 games. His team won the cup. He was named the Best Newcomer in the league.
On February 4, 2016, Jesus scored his first goal in the state league. Twelve days later, he scored his first goal in a continental competition. This was a 2–2 draw in the 2016 Copa Libertadores. On April 6, he scored twice in a 3–3 draw. He was sent off for the first time in his career in that game. He later said sorry for his actions.
On May 14, Jesus scored two goals in a 4–0 win. He scored 12 goals as his team won their first national championship since 1994. He was named the best player of the season.
Manchester City
On August 3, 2016, it was announced that Jesus would join Premier League club Manchester City. He signed a contract until 2021. The transfer was completed on January 19, 2017.
Jesus played his first Premier League game on January 21, 2017. He came on as a substitute in a 2–2 draw. A week later, he started his first game for Manchester City. He helped set up a goal in a 3–0 FA Cup win. On February 1, he started his first Premier League game. He assisted a goal and then scored his first goal for the club. He was the first Manchester City player to have a goal and an assist in his first Premier League start.
He scored his first Premier League goal of the 2017–18 season on August 26. He scored an equalizer in a 2–1 win. He scored two more goals in a 5–0 win against Liverpool. Jesus scored the last Premier League goal of the 2017–18 season. This goal helped City reach a record 100 points. On August 3, 2018, Jesus signed a new contract with Manchester City until 2023.
On January 9, 2019, Gabriel Jesus scored four goals in a 9–0 win. This was against Burton Albion. On March 13, 2019, Jesus scored in a 7–0 win in the UEFA Champions League. This helped the club set a record for the biggest win in the knockout stage. On June 22, he changed his jersey number from 33 to 9.
On August 7, 2020, Jesus scored and assisted both goals in a 2–1 win against Real Madrid. This was in the Champions League. His goals came after he pressured the Real Madrid defender, forcing mistakes. This win sent Manchester City to the quarter-finals. He was the only player to score in two separate games against Real Madrid that season.
On April 23, 2022, Jesus scored four goals in a 5–1 home win against Watford. This was his first Premier League hat-trick.
Arsenal
On July 4, 2022, Jesus signed a long-term contract with Arsenal. He was given the number 9 shirt. The transfer fee was reported to be £45 million. On August 5, he made his club debut in a 2–0 win. On August 13, he scored his first two goals for Arsenal. He also provided two assists in a 4–2 win against Leicester City. On August 31, Jesus scored Arsenal's first goal in a 2–1 win. This helped Arsenal keep their perfect start to the season. He was voted Arsenal's Player of the Month for August 2022. On October 1, Jesus scored in his first North London derby. Arsenal won 3–1 against Tottenham Hotspur.
On March 12, 2023, he played his first game after recovering from a knee injury. He came on as a substitute in Arsenal's 3–0 win. He scored twice in Arsenal's 4–1 win against Leeds United on April 1. These were his first goals since his injury. He finished his first season with 11 goals and six assists.
On September 3, 2023, Jesus scored his first goal of the 2023–24 season. This was in a 3–1 victory over Manchester United. On September 20, Jesus scored in a 4–0 win against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. This marked Arsenal's return to the competition after six years. He then scored in Arsenal's 2–1 loss to Lens. He scored again in Arsenal's 2–1 win against Sevilla. This made him the first Arsenal player to score three goals in his first three Champions League matches since 2011.
Jesus scored his first goal of the 2024–25 season on October 30, 2024. He opened the scoring in Arsenal's 3–0 win against Preston. On December 18, 2024, Jesus scored his first hat-trick for Arsenal. He scored all three goals in a 3–2 win against Crystal Palace. On January 12, 2025, he got an ACL injury during an FA Cup match. This injury meant he would miss the rest of the season.
International career
Jesus was part of the Brazil under-20 team. They finished second at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand. He scored their first goal of the tournament.
In 2016, he was chosen for Brazil's Olympic team. He scored against Denmark in a 4–0 win. In the semi-final against Honduras, he scored two more goals in a 6–0 victory. Jesus won the Olympics with his team against Germany in a penalty shoot-out. He scored one of the penalties.
Jesus made his debut for the senior Brazil team on September 1, 2016. This was in a World Cup qualification game against Ecuador. He started the match and scored twice, as Brazil won 3–0. Jesus was Brazil's top scorer in the World Cup qualifiers with 7 goals.
In May 2018, he was named in Brazil's squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Jesus started all five games for Brazil in the tournament.
In May 2019, Jesus was in Brazil's squad for the 2019 Copa América. In the final against Peru on July 7, he assisted the first goal. He then scored the winning goal in the first half. Brazil won the match 3–1 to win the title.
In June 2021, he was part of Brazil's squad for the 2021 Copa América.
On November 7, 2022, Jesus was named in the squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He was ruled out for the rest of the competition after getting a knee injury. This happened in the final group stage match against Cameroon.
Style of play
Jesus is a very flexible forward. He can play in many attacking positions. He can be a center forward, a main striker, or a winger. He is known for his technical skills, dribbling, creativity, movement, and hard work.
Former Brazilian striker Ronaldo has praised Jesus. He said Jesus has a bright future with the Brazil national team. Pep Guardiola, his former coach at Manchester City, called him the "best striker/defender" he has worked with.
When he joined Arsenal, Jesus was placed as a striker.
Personal life
Gabriel Jesus moved to England with his mother, older brother, and two friends. He comes from a religious family. He reportedly chose to wear the number 33 shirt to honor the age at which Jesus Christ was crucified. He and Neymar got matching tattoos in August 2016. The tattoos show a boy looking over a favela.
Jesus' special goal celebration is called ‘Alô mãe’ ("Hello, mother" in English). He makes a telephone gesture. This celebration has been included in the FIFA video games.
Jesus and his partner Raiane Lima have two children. Their daughter was born in May 2022, and their son was born in June 2025.
