Genesee is a small city in Latah County, Idaho, in the United States. In 2010, about 955 people lived there. This was a small increase from 946 people in 2000.
The city got its name from the Genesee region in western New York. Some people think its name might also come from the biblical Genesis. Genesee was the first place in Latah County where people settled permanently. It became an official city on October 23, 1889.
Genesee is well-known for growing lots of grain. The city is located right on the edge of Latah County. Many people who live in the countryside nearby actually live in Nez Perce County. There is one school in Genesee that teaches students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade.

Where is Genesee Located?
Genesee is found in a region called the Palouse. It is about 14 miles (23 km) south of Moscow. It's also about halfway between Moscow and Lewiston.
The center of the city is just east of US-95. It is also just north of the Nez Perce County border. The United States Census Bureau says that Genesee covers a total area of about 0.66 square miles (1.71 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

In 2010, a census counted 955 people living in Genesee. There were 370 households and 261 families. The city had about 1,447 people per square mile (559 people per square kilometer). There were 400 homes, with about 606 homes per square mile (234 homes per square kilometer).
Most people in Genesee were White (96.1%). A small number were Native American (0.2%), Asian (0.7%), or from other backgrounds. About 1.0% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
