George Ernest Salazar (born March 7, 1986) is an American actor and singer. He is well-known for his work in musicals both on and off Broadway.
George first performed on Broadway in 2011 in a show called Godspell. He also created the role of Michael Mell in the popular musical Be More Chill. He performed this role Off-Broadway in 2018 and then on Broadway in 2019. George also played Grover in The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical. Later, he starred as Seymour Krelborn in the musical Little Shop of Horrors.

Growing Up and School
George Salazar grew up in Orlando, Florida. His mother is from the Philippines, and his father is from Ecuador. When he was younger, George planned to become a doctor. However, in his last two years of high school, he decided to focus on theater instead.
After high school, he went to the University of Florida. He studied Musical Theatre there and earned his degree in 2008. Soon after, he moved to New York City to start his acting career. George is also a skilled musician who plays the drums and cajón.
His Acting Journey
George Salazar got his first big acting job in 2010. He was cast as "Otto" in the second national tour of Spring Awakening. A national tour means the show travels to many cities across the country. This tour also went to Canada and ended in May 2011. When George returned to New York City, he became a member of Actors' Equity Association. This is a union for actors and stage managers.
In September 2011, George joined the Broadway revival of Godspell. A revival is a new production of an older show. This was his first time performing on Broadway. He was the "Light of the World" soloist in the show. Godspell opened on Broadway on November 7, 2011. It ran for 264 performances before closing in June 2012. The cast also recorded an album of the show's songs. During the show's run, George and the cast appeared on TV shows like Late Show with David Letterman and The View.
In 2013, George combined his love for theater and music. He was a cast member and musician in an Off-Broadway show called ... Up Everything. Off-Broadway shows are professional productions in smaller theaters than Broadway. He played the drummer in a rock band and was the actual drummer on stage. He played this role again in 2016 when the show was renamed Brooklyn Crush.
George also joined the cast of Here Lies Love in 2013. He was an understudy at first. An understudy learns a role and performs it if the main actor is unable to. In 2014, he became a regular member of the ensemble cast. This show closed in January 2015.
In 2015, George played Michael Mell in the musical Be More Chill. This show was performed at the Two River Theater in New Jersey.
In 2016, George played Michael in an Off-Broadway revival of Tick, Tick... Boom!. This show ran from October to December.
In 2017, George played Grover and Mr. D in the Off-Broadway premiere of The Lightning Thief. This show was based on the popular Percy Jackson books.
George played Michael Mell again in Be More Chill in 2018. This was for the Off-Broadway premiere of the musical. Then, in 2019, he brought the role of Michael Mell to Broadway. The show ran from February to August 2019.
Also in 2019, George starred as Seymour Krelborn in Little Shop of Horrors. This show was at the Pasadena Playhouse. While performing in this show, he sang "Suddenly Seymour" with his co-star Mj Rodriguez on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
In 2021, George played Musidorus in Head Over Heels. This was at the Pasadena Playhouse. It was his first theater role after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also the first show to reopen the Pasadena Playhouse.
