Geynyan facts for kids
The Geynyon people, sometimes called Keinjan, are an Aboriginal Australian group from southern Queensland. They are likely a dialect or family group of the larger Githabul peoples. In May 2021, the Githabul peoples made a Native Title claim for land in the Southern Downs area. This claim is a legal way to recognize their traditional rights and connection to the land.
Traditional Lands of the Geynyon People
The Geynyon people traditionally lived on a large area of land, about 1,400 square miles (3,626 square kilometers). Their territory stretched from Stanthorpe in the south, near the border with New South Wales, up to Hendon and Allora in the north.
Their lands reached the Great Dividing Range in the east. To the west, their territory included Warwick and areas near Leyburn. Some researchers also suggested their land included Inglewood. The Logan River formed their eastern border with the Yugambeh people. Their southern border with the Githabul people was just past Killarney.
