Where is Glanmire Located?
Glanmire is about 6 kilometers (or 3.7 miles) southeast of Gympie's main town center. You can get there by following the Bruce Highway.
This area has some natural borders:
- The North Coast railway line is to its northeast.
- Six Mile Creek runs along its east and southeast sides.
- The Mary River is to the southwest.
- Hall Road forms its northwest border.
Glanmire is also home to the Gympie Industrial Estate, which is where many businesses are located. The busy Bruce Highway passes right through Glanmire, connecting it to places like Kybong in the south and Monkland in the north.
A Look at Glanmire's Past
Glanmire got its name from a town called Glanmire in County Cork, Ireland. It's interesting how places in Australia often get their names from other parts of the world!
A special event happened in 2018: Six Mile Oval, a local sports ground, was renamed Ray Warren Oval. This was done to honor Ray Warren, who had been a big part of the local Aussie Rules team, the Gympie Cats, for 37 years. That's a long time to be involved in a community!

Six Mile Creek Rest Area
If you're traveling, the Six Mile Creek Rest Area is a great spot to take a break. It's a grassy area next to the creek, located at 612 Bruce Highway. This reserve has barbecues and toilets, and it's a popular place for trucks and caravans to stop overnight.
