Glenburn is a small town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. In 2020, about 4,648 people lived there.

When Glenburn was first made a town in 1822, it was called "Dutton." This name honored Samuel Dutton, a judge and founder of the Bangor Theological Seminary. The town's name was changed to Glenburn on March 18, 1837.

Education in Glenburn

Historical Military Site

During the middle of the 1900s, there was a special military facility in Glenburn. It was called a Ground-to-Air Transmitter (GAT) Facility. This site was part of the CIM-10 Bomarc missile system. It was managed by Dow Air Force Base in Bangor.

This facility was located near where the town offices are today. Over time, some of the equipment and fuel stored there caused the local groundwater to become polluted. Cleanup efforts are currently underway to make the area safe again. This cleanup is expected to continue until around the year 2039.
