The Golden Gate Range is a mountain range found in the state of Nevada, USA. It stretches across the northwestern part of Lincoln County and the eastern part of Nye County. This range runs from north to northeast, sitting between two valleys: the Garden Valley to its west and the Coal Valley to its east.

The highest peaks of the Golden Gate Range are located in the southern part, within Lincoln County. As you move north, the mountains become lower hills, sometimes broken up by "water gaps" where rivers or streams have cut through. The northeastern edge of the range meets the White River Valley.

Neighboring Mountain Ranges

The Golden Gate Range is surrounded by several other mountain ranges. To its west and northwest, you'll find the Worthington Mountains, the Quinn Canyon Range, and the Grant Range. To the east lies the Seaman Range. South of the Golden Gate Range are the Timpahute Range and the Mount Irish Range.

Part of a National Monument

A very important fact about the Golden Gate Range is that it is part of the Basin and Range National Monument. This special area was created by President Barack Obama in 2015.

What is a National Monument?

A national monument is a protected area in the United States. It's set aside to preserve important natural, cultural, or historical features. Like national parks, these areas are managed to protect their unique qualities for everyone to enjoy and learn from.

Why the Basin and Range is Special

The Basin and Range National Monument, which includes the Golden Gate Range, protects a vast desert landscape. This area is known for its incredible natural beauty, unique geology, and important cultural sites. It's a place where you can see ancient rock art, explore diverse plant and animal life, and experience the quiet of the Nevada desert. Protecting this area helps keep it wild and beautiful for future generations.
