Grace Jackson, born on June 14, 1961, is a famous athlete from Jamaica. She was a fantastic runner, especially in the 100-meter and 200-meter races. Grace won an Olympic silver medal in the 200 meters at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. She also held Jamaican records for the 200m and 400m races. Because of her amazing talent, she was named Jamaican Sportswoman of the Year in both 1986 and 1988.

Grace Jackson's Athletic Journey

Grace Jackson was born in St. Ann, Jamaica. She started her Olympic journey at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. There, she reached the finals for both the 100m and 200m races, finishing fifth in each.

Winning Medals and Setting Records

A year later, in 1985, Grace won the 200m title at the Universiade. She also earned second place in both the 100m and 200m races at the 1985 IAAF World Cup. In 1987, she won a bronze medal in the 200m at the 1987 IAAF World Indoor Championships. She finished behind two other great runners, Heike Drechsler and Merlene Ottey.

The 1988 Seoul Olympics

The most exciting part of her career was at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Grace won a silver medal in the 200m race. She finished just behind Florence Griffith-Joyner, who set a world record that still stands today. Grace ran her fastest time ever, a Jamaican record of 21.72 seconds. This was incredibly close to the world record at the time. She even finished ahead of other top athletes like Heike Drechsler and her teammate Merlene Ottey.

Later Career and Records

In 1989, Grace won another silver medal in the 200m at the 1989 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Later that year, she broke the Jamaican 400m record with a time of 49.57 seconds. This record stood for 13 years! Grace finished her international running career at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. She placed sixth in the 200m final.
