Grass Mountain is a cool mountain found in Bennington County, Vermont. It's part of the Taconic Mountains range. Even though it's called "Grass Mountain," it's a pretty tall peak, reaching over 3,000 feet high! It's a great place to explore the natural beauty of Vermont.

About Grass Mountain

Grass Mountain stands tall in Vermont. It is surrounded by other mountains. To the north, you'll find Big Spruce Mountain. To the southeast, there's Spruce Mountain. These mountains are all part of the same beautiful landscape.

The mountain's highest point is 3,109 feet above sea level. This makes it one of the taller peaks in the area. It's also known for its "prominence," which means how much it rises above the land around it. Grass Mountain rises about 2,189 feet from its base.

Water Flow from Grass Mountain

Grass Mountain is important for the water cycle in the region. All the rain and melted snow that falls on the mountain eventually flows into a larger river system. This area is called a watershed. A watershed is like a big bowl that collects water.

The water from Grass Mountain travels a long way. It eventually reaches the Hudson River. The Hudson River then flows into New York Bay. This bay is part of the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Water from the north side of Grass Mountain flows into Batten Kill. From there, it goes into the Hudson River.
  • The east side of the mountain drains into Dry Brook. Dry Brook also flows into Batten Kill.
  • Water from the south side goes into Little White Creek. This creek flows into the Walloomsac River. The Walloomsac River then joins the Hoosic River, which flows into the Hudson.
  • Finally, the west side of Grass Mountain drains into White Creek. White Creek flows into Owl Kill, then the Hoosic River, and finally the Hudson River.

It's amazing how all these small streams connect to form big rivers!
