Great Cornard is a large village in Suffolk, England. It is part of the town of Sudbury. The village is located in the Babergh area. It is a civil parish, which means it has its own local government.

A Look at Great Cornard's Past

The area where Great Cornard is today has been lived in for a very long time. People lived here even before recorded history. We have found signs of early settlements from the Palaeolithic (Stone Age), Bronze Age, and Roman times.

The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book from 1086. This book was a huge survey of England ordered by William the Conqueror. For many centuries, Cornard stayed a small village.

In the 20th century, Great Cornard started to grow a lot. More people moved in, and new homes were built. In the 1960s, a council estate was built. These are homes built by the local government for people to live in.

The village expanded even more in the 1950s and 60s. This happened because of a plan to move people out of crowded London. By the early 2000s, Great Cornard's population was almost as big as nearby Sudbury.
