In the 20th century, Great Cornard started to grow a lot. More people moved in, and new homes were built. In the 1960s, a council estate was built. These are homes built by the local government for people to live in.
The village expanded even more in the 1950s and 60s. This happened because of a plan to move people out of crowded London. By the early 2000s, Great Cornard's population was almost as big as nearby Sudbury.
