In 2020, about 3,219 people lived here. Green Charter Township was first set up in 1858. This was even before Mecosta County became its own separate county from Newaygo County.

Where is Green Township Located?
Green Charter Township is in the northwest part of Mecosta County. It shares borders with Osceola County to the north and Newaygo County to the west. At its very northwest corner, it also touches Lake County.
Major Roads and Rivers
U.S. Route 131 is a main highway that runs through the western side of the township. This road connects Green Township to other cities. It goes south to Big Rapids and Grand Rapids. To the north, it leads to Reed City and Cadillac.
The township covers about 37.6 square miles (97.4 square kilometers) in total. Most of this area, about 37.0 square miles (95.8 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.6 square miles (1.6 square kilometers), is water. The Muskegon River flows through the eastern part of the township. This river eventually flows into Lake Michigan. The Muskegon River also forms the northeastern border of the township with Grant Township.
