Gregory Joseph Pence (born November 14, 1956) is an American businessman and politician. He served as a U.S. Representative for Indiana's 6th congressional district from 2019 to 2025. This district covers much of east-central Indiana, including his hometown of Columbus. It also includes cities like Greenfield and Richmond.
Pence is a member of the Republican Party. He is the older brother of Mike Pence, who was the U.S. Vice President. His brother Mike also represented the same district from 2001 to 2013. On January 9, 2024, Greg Pence announced he would not run for re-election.

Early Life and Education
Greg Pence was born in Columbus, Indiana, on November 14, 1956. He is the oldest of six children. His parents were Ann Jane "Nancy" and Edward Joseph Pence Jr. His father ran several gas stations. Greg was raised in the Catholic faith.
Pence studied at Loyola University Chicago. He earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in theology and philosophy. Later, in 1983, he also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the same university.
His Time in the Military
After getting his first degree, Pence joined the Marines in 1981. He served for five and a half years. He rose to the rank of first lieutenant. In 1983, his military group was stationed in Beirut, Lebanon. They left the area shortly before a major bombing event happened there.
Business Career
After leaving the Marine Corps, Greg Pence joined Kiel Brothers Oil Company in 1988. He became its president in 1998 and held that role until 2004. This company operated a chain of gas stations and convenience stores.
Pence also owns and runs antique malls in southern Indiana. Before working at Kiel Brothers, he worked for other oil companies like Marathon Oil and Unocal. In 1999, he was chosen to be on the board of directors for Home Federal Bancorp.

Becoming a Representative
2018 Election
In 2017, Greg Pence decided to run for the U.S. House seat that his brother Mike used to hold. On May 8, 2018, he won the Republican nomination. This was a big step toward becoming a U.S. Representative.
He then faced Democrat Jeannine Lee Lake in the general election in November. Pence won the election by a large margin, getting over 30% more votes than his opponent.
2020 Election
In 2020, Pence ran for re-election. He again faced Jeannine Lake. He won this rematch on November 3 with 68.6% of the votes. This allowed him to continue serving in the House of Representatives.
Key Actions in Congress
In December 2020, Pence was one of many Republican members of the House who supported a lawsuit. This lawsuit challenged the results of the 2020 United States presidential election. In this election, Joe Biden won against Donald Trump.
In January 2021, after an event at the U.S. Capitol, Greg Pence voted on a specific issue. Despite chants against his brother, Mike Pence, he voted to reject some votes from Pennsylvania. This vote was in line with Donald Trump's position.
In May 2021, Pence voted against creating a special commission. This commission was meant to investigate the events of January 6. He believed it was a political move by Democrats. The bill to create the commission still passed.
In August 2022, Pence spoke out against President Joe Biden's plan. This plan aimed to forgive up to $10,000 in student loan debt for some people. Pence was criticized by some because he had a business loan forgiven earlier.

Pence voted against the PACT Act. This law aimed to expand health benefits for veterans. These veterans had been exposed to harmful chemicals during their military service.

Denise Pence has been a delegate at several Republican National Conventions. She voted for Donald Trump and Mike Pence in 2016 and 2020. In 2024, she voted for Donald Trump and JD Vance. Greg Pence and his family attended Donald Trump's inauguration in 2017.
Their oldest daughter, Nicole, worked as a TV anchor in Indianapolis. Their son, John, was a senior advisor for Donald Trump's 2020 presidential campaign. John is married to Giovanna Coia, who is a cousin of Kellyanne Conway.
