Gregory J. Vincent is a leader in education and civil rights. He served as the 21st President of Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama, from July 2022 to June 2024. He is known for his work on civil rights, social justice, and making colleges welcoming for everyone.
Before his role at Talladega, Mr. Vincent was a professor at the University of Kentucky. There, he led important programs focused on education and civil rights. He also served as the 27th President of Hobart College and the 16th President of William Smith College.

Gregory Vincent's Education Journey
Early Life and High School
Gregory Vincent grew up in New York City. He went to public schools and graduated from the Bronx High School of Science in 1979. This school is famous for its focus on science and math.
College and University Studies
He earned his bachelor's degree in history and economics from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 1983. During his time there, he was active in sports, playing basketball, cross-country, and track & field. He also helped other students as a resident assistant. When he graduated, he received the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Award for his leadership.
After college, Mr. Vincent continued his studies. He earned his law degree (Juris Doctor) from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 1987. Later, in 2004, he received his doctorate in education (Ed.D.) from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of two important fraternities, Alpha Phi Alpha and Sigma Pi Phi.

Leadership at Universities
Mr. Vincent has held many important leadership roles at universities across the United States. From 2005 to 2017, he worked at the University of Texas at Austin. He was the vice president for Diversity and Community Engagement. In this role, he helped make the university a more diverse and inclusive place. His work there became a model for other universities.
Before that, he was a vice provost and law professor at the University of Oregon from 2003 to 2005. From 1999 to 2003, he held similar roles at Louisiana State University. He also worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1995 to 1999.
Work as a Lawyer
Before working in universities, Gregory Vincent was an assistant attorney general in the Office of the Ohio Attorney General. In this role, he successfully argued several important civil rights cases in front of the Supreme Court of Ohio. This means he helped protect people's rights through the legal system.
Awards and Recognition
Gregory Vincent has received several awards for his dedication and hard work. In 2016, the University of Pennsylvania named him their Educator of the Year. He also received the Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2012. These awards show how much his work in education and civil rights is valued.
