Eddie Collins (born September 28, 1981), known as Greydon Square, is an American rapper, producer, and sound engineer. He is from Compton, California. Greydon Square is a veteran of the Iraq War. He is also known for being an atheist and for owning Majestic Comics. He uses his music and creative work to encourage discussions about atheism, critical thinking, and rational thought.

Early Life and Experiences

Eddie Collins grew up in Compton, California. He was raised in foster homes, which are temporary homes for children who cannot live with their families. When he was nine, he taught himself to play the piano. As a teenager, he faced challenges that led to him spending time in a juvenile facility. He has said that during his childhood in foster care, he felt "watched, not raised."

In 2001, Collins joined the United States Army. He served in the Iraq War with the 82nd Airborne Division. He has shared that his time in Iraq caused him to experience post-traumatic stress.

After leaving the Army, Collins studied computer science at Arizona State University. During his time there, he began to question his religious beliefs. This led him to become an atheist. Greydon Square has said, "I could easily be just another gangster rapper. That's not where I am. (...) I went to Iraq, I saw people die. It's not a game to me."

Greydon Square's Music Career

Greydon Square uses his stage name for almost all his music and professional work. He is inspired by many artists, including Rakim, Phil Collins, DJ Quik, Dr. Dre, and The Bee Gees.

First Albums: 2004–2009

In 2004, Greydon Square released his first album, Absolute, under the name Apocalypse. He published it himself, and it is no longer widely available. In 2015, he re-released two songs from this album: "Absolute" and "Reality."

His first major album as Greydon Square was The Compton Effect, released in 2007. The title refers to a science concept and his hometown, Compton, California. He started his own company to release the album. In 2008, he released The C.P.T. Theorem, named after another science idea called the CPT theorem.

His music from this time often talks about big ideas like philosophy and politics. He also shares his experiences from the war in Iraq and growing up in group homes. His views on atheism are a strong theme in these albums.

The Kardashev Scale Series: 2010–2022

In 2010, Greydon Square released The Kardashev Scale (album). This was the first album in a series named after the Kardashev scale. This scale measures how advanced a civilization's technology is. The album's title, Type I, shows it's the first in the series.

The second album, Type II : The Mandelbrot Set, came out in 2012. Its title refers to the Mandelbrot set, which is used to create fractals (complex patterns). In 2015, he added to the series with Omniverse : Type 3 : Aum niverse. The omniverse is a concept that includes our universe and all other possible "alternate" or "parallel universes."

The latest album in this series, Type 4: City on the Type of Forever, was released on September 28, 2022. Its title is inspired by an episode of the TV show Star Trek.

During this time, Greydon Square also worked with rapper Sai Phi on the album LTGU. He also appeared on Sai Phi's first solo album, Dimensions Disassembled.

Recent Work: Compton Scattering

On November 5, 2017, Greydon Square released the album Compton Scattering. This title is also related to the "Compton effect" science concept. This album is similar to his earlier works. It discusses topics like politics and cryptocurrency.

Greydon Square was also featured on the album LTGU, released on August 8, 2017. This album was by the group Low Technology, which Greydon Square helped start in 2007.

Other Projects and Activities

Greydon Square is part of the international secular hip-hop activist movement. He is also a member of The Anti-Injustice Movement, known as AIM Clika. He helped create the Grand Unified Theory organization. This group uses creative ways to teach people about science and rational thinking.

In 2016, Greydon Square and rapper Tombstone da Deadman created a science-fiction comic called Extropy and Entropy. Joseph Arnold illustrated the comic. It is designed to go along with music tracks by Square and Tombstone.

In 2013, he appeared in a documentary film called Contradiction. This film explored Christianity in the black community.
