Guapa (which means Pretty in English) is the fourth studio album by the Spanish Pop rock band La Oreja de Van Gogh. It was released on April 25, 2006.
Later, on December 5, 2006, a special version called Más Guapa (meaning Prettier) came out in Spain and Mexico. This version included a second disc with songs that had not been released before. Guapa won a Latin Grammy Award for Best Pop Album By a Duo or Group. It was also the last album the band made with Amaia Montero as their main singer.

Making the Album: Guapa
The band started writing songs for Guapa in February 2005. By November, they had 18 songs ready. The album was recorded in London, England, at the famous Abbey Road Studios in December 2005.
In January 2006, they continued recording in Madrid, Spain. The album was produced by Nigel Walker along with the band. This album came out around the time the band celebrated 10 years together.
Guapa has thirteen songs. They mix the band's usual pop sound with other styles like reggae, ranchera, and bossa nova. Some songs also have sounds from the 1960s and 1970s, and even some techno parts. Songs like Noche (Night), Muñeca de trapo (Rag Doll), and Perdida (Lost) show how the band's music and lyrics had grown.
This album was highly anticipated in Spain in 2006. The first song released from the album was Muñeca de Trapo, and it became very popular.
Before the album officially came out, a phone company offered a special phone with all 13 songs and the music video for the first single. This meant some people got the music before its official release date.
By December 2006, Guapa had sold so many copies that it earned seven Platinum CDs. The album also won a Latin Grammy Award in 2006 for being the best pop album by a group.
The band toured North and South America to promote the album. They visited many Spanish-speaking countries. This tour helped the album sell about a million copies in the Americas.
With sales of over 560,000 copies in Spain, Guapa became the third best-selling album in the history of La Oreja de Van Gogh. It sold about 1.5 million copies worldwide. The album stayed in the Top 10 best-selling CDs in Spain for over 30 weeks. It was even number one for 10 of those weeks.
What Does Guapa Mean?
La Oreja de Van Gogh often gives their albums long and unique names. Examples include El viaje de Copperpot (Copperpot's Journey) and Lo que te conté mientras te hacías la dormida (What I Told You While You Pretended to Be Asleep).
So, people wondered why this album had such a short name, Guapa. The band explained that Guapa is actually a short version of a much longer phrase. This phrase is printed on the back of the album cover.
In English, this means: Guapa is the story of someone who doesn't give up on the amazing journey of finding themselves. It's about someone who accepts getting older and still having fears. It's about someone who feels unsure but always makes their bed when they wake up. It's about someone who truly smiles without even trying, and who makes peace between what they love and what they want. It's about someone who lets time be a quiet friend, helping them feel a little prettier each morning when they look into their soul's mirror.
This long title is like a positive message or affirmation about feeling good about yourself.
