Gulbadin Naib, born on June 4, 1991, is a talented Afghan cricketer. He is known as an "all-rounder" because he is good at both batting and bowling. He bats right-handed and bowls right-arm fast-medium.
In April 2019, Gulbadin became the captain of Afghanistan's One Day International (ODI) team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He took over from Asghar Afghan. After the World Cup, where Afghanistan faced tough matches, Rashid Khan became the new captain. Gulbadin later helped Afghanistan win a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games.

Gulbadin Naib's Early Cricket Journey
Gulbadin Naib was born in Puli Alam, a city in the Logar Province of Afghanistan. He started his cricket career playing for Afghanistan in the 2008 ICC World Cricket League Division Five. He played five matches in that tournament.
He was also part of a documentary called Out of the Ashes. This film showed the team getting ready for a tournament. It also showed their lives back home in Afghanistan. Gulbadin was seen working out in a gym in Kabul. He even said that Arnold Schwarzenegger was one of his heroes.
Two years after the film, Gulbadin joined Afghanistan's team for the Cricket at the 2010 Asian Games. He played one match against Hong Kong. Afghanistan won a silver medal in this competition. He also played his first List A matches when Afghanistan toured Pakistan.
International Cricket Career
Gulbadin Naib made his One Day International (ODI) debut in August 2011 against Canada. Later that year, he played his first Twenty20 match against Trinidad and Tobago. He also played for a new team called Afghan Cheetahs. During this time, he scored his first Twenty20 half-century, which means he scored more than 50 runs in one game.
In December 2011, Gulbadin scored 57 runs in the final of the 2011 ACC Twenty20 Cup. This helped Afghanistan beat Hong Kong and win the championship.
Playing Against Top Teams
In February 2012, Gulbadin played in Afghanistan's first ODI against a major cricket nation, Pakistan. This match took place in Sharjah. He also made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against the Netherlands in March 2012.
Later in 2012, Gulbadin played against Ireland. He took his first ODI wicket in one of these matches. He also made his first-class debut during this tour. In August 2012, he played against Australia. He scored a quick 22 runs, including three sixes.
Gulbadin was chosen for Afghanistan's team for the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka. He scored 44 runs against England in that tournament.
Captaincy and Key Performances
In April 2019, Gulbadin was chosen to be the captain of Afghanistan's team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Just before the World Cup, in a match against Ireland, he took six wickets for only 43 runs. This was his best bowling performance in ODIs.
On June 24, 2019, Gulbadin played his 100th international match for Afghanistan against Bangladesh. In the same match, he also reached 1,000 runs in ODI cricket.
He was part of Afghanistan's team for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. In May 2024, he was again selected for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. During a Super 8 match against Australia, Gulbadin bowled incredibly well. He took four wickets for just 20 runs. This helped Afghanistan achieve a historic win over Australia. He was the first bowler in World Cup history to take four wickets after being the eighth bowler used in an innings.
Playing for Franchise Teams
Gulbadin Naib has also played for different cricket teams around the world. These teams are part of special leagues, often called "franchise" leagues.
In September 2018, he joined the Balkh team for the first Afghanistan Premier League tournament. The next month, he was picked to play for the Sylhet Sixers team in the 2018–19 Bangladesh Premier League.
