Rashid Khan Arman (Pashto: راشد خان ارمان), born on September 20, 1998, is a famous Afghan cricketer. He is the captain of the Afghanistan national team in the T20I format. Rashid is known for his right-arm leg spin bowling and strong right-handed batting.

He plays for many different teams around the world. These include the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Adelaide Strikers in Australia's Big Bash League (BBL). He also plays for the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Band-e-Amir Dragons in Afghanistan.

Rashid Khan was one of the first eleven cricketers to play in Afghanistan's very first Test match in June 2018. This historic game was against India. In September 2019, at just 20 years old, he became the youngest player ever to captain a Test match team. This happened when he led Afghanistan against Bangladesh.

He has achieved many impressive records in cricket. In February 2018, he became the youngest player to be ranked number one in the world for bowlers in One Day International (ODI) matches. Later that month, he also became the top-ranked T20I bowler. In September 2018, he was ranked the number one all-rounder in the world.

In March 2018, Rashid became the youngest player to captain an international cricket team. He was only 19 years and 165 days old when he led Afghanistan in an ODI match. He also became the fastest and youngest bowler to take 100 wickets in ODIs, reaching this milestone in just 44 matches. This broke the previous record of 52 matches.

Early Life and Cricket Journey

Rashid Khan was born in 1998 in Nangarhar, Afghanistan. His family, including his ten brothers and sisters, lived in Jalalabad. They had to move to Pakistan for a few years because of the Afghan war.

Rashid grew up playing cricket with his brothers. He looked up to Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi and South African batsman AB de Villiers. He copied Afridi's bowling style. Even though he was good at batting at first, he became excellent at leg-spin bowling.

He studied computer science at Islamia College Peshawar until 2013. He got into the college because of his sports skills. He became well-known in 2014 after playing very well in matches in Peshawar.

On October 3, 2024, Rashid got married in Kabul. His three brothers also got married on the same day.

International Cricket Achievements

Rashid Khan started his international career in 2015. He played his first One Day International (ODI) match for Afghanistan against Zimbabwe on October 18, 2015. He made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against Zimbabwe on October 26, 2015.

Amazing Bowling Records

On March 10, 2017, Rashid took his first T20I five-wicket haul. He took five wickets for only three runs against Ireland. This was the best bowling performance by an Afghan cricketer in a T20I. He was also the first player to take five wickets in just two overs in a T20I match.

In June 2017, he took seven wickets for only 18 runs against the West Indies. This was one of the best ODI bowling performances ever. Afghanistan won that match, and Rashid was named the best player.

In February 2019, he took a hat-trick and four wickets in four balls in a T20I match against Ireland. This is a very rare and exciting achievement in cricket!

Test Match Debut

In May 2018, Rashid was chosen for Afghanistan's first-ever Test match squad. He made his Test debut against India on June 14, 2018. In this match, he gave away a lot of runs, which was a new record for a bowler in their country's first Test match. He was also one of the first teenagers to give away more than 100 runs in a country's first Test match.

In February 2019, he took five wickets for 82 runs in a Test match against Ireland. This was the first time an Afghan bowler took a five-wicket haul in a Test match.

Playing in the Cricket World Cup

In April 2019, Rashid was part of Afghanistan's team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. The International Cricket Council (ICC) called him one of the most exciting new talents in the tournament. On June 1, 2019, he played his 100th international cricket match. A few days later, he played his 100th international match for Afghanistan.

In a match against England on June 18, 2019, Rashid bowled a very expensive spell. He gave away 110 runs in his nine overs, which was the most in a Cricket World Cup match.

After the 2019 Cricket World Cup, Rashid was made captain of the Afghanistan cricket team in all three formats (Test, ODI, and T20I). His first Test match as captain was against Bangladesh in September 2019, which Afghanistan won. In this match, he became the first Afghan bowler to take ten wickets in a Test match. He was also the first cricketer to score a fifty and take ten wickets in his first match as a Test captain.

In November 2020, Rashid Khan was named the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Decade. In July 2021, he was again named the captain of Afghanistan's T20I team. He was also named captain for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in September 2021. However, he later stepped down, saying he wasn't asked about the team selection.

On November 7, 2021, during a T20 World Cup match, Rashid took his 400th wicket in Twenty20 cricket. In December 2022, he was once again appointed captain of Afghanistan's T20I team. He also led the team in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament in May 2024.

Rashid Khan has played for many different cricket teams in leagues all over the world.

Indian Premier League (IPL)

In February 2017, the Sunrisers Hyderabad team bought Rashid for the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL). He was one of the first two Afghan players ever chosen for the IPL. He played his first IPL match and took two wickets. He ended the tournament as one of the top wicket-takers.

In March 2022, he played as the vice-captain for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022. On April 9, 2023, he took a hat-trick against the Kolkata Knight Riders, becoming the fourth player to do so in IPL history.

Caribbean Premier League (CPL)

In 2017, Rashid was bought by the Guyana Amazon Warriors to play in the 2017 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). In September 2017, he took the first hat-trick in CPL history for his team.

In August 2020, he took his 300th wicket in Twenty20 cricket. At just 21 years old, he became the youngest bowler to reach 300 T20 wickets. He also reached this milestone faster than anyone else, in 213 matches.

Big Bash League (BBL)

In September 2017, Rashid joined the Adelaide Strikers for the 2017–18 Big Bash League. His team went on to win the tournament. On January 8, 2020, he took a hat-trick in a BBL match. He is a very popular player with the fans in Adelaide.

On January 12, 2022, Rashid played his 300th Twenty20 match. In that game, he took six wickets for only 17 runs, which was his best performance ever in a match.

Afghanistan Premier League

In September 2018, Rashid was chosen as a top player for the Kabul Zwanan team in the first Afghanistan Premier League tournament. Even though his team lost in the final, he was named the best player of the tournament.

Pakistan Super League (PSL)

In November 2017, Rashid was chosen to play for the Quetta Gladiators in the 2018 Pakistan Super League players draft. For the 2021 season, he was the first top pick for the Lahore Qalandars.

Other Cricket Tournaments

Rashid has also played in other leagues. In October 2017, he joined Sussex County Cricket Club for the NatWest T20 Blast in England. He was also the first player chosen for the Trent Rockets in The Hundred tournament. In June 2023, he signed with MI New York to play in the Major League Cricket in the United States.
