How the Village is Run

Parish councils are the lowest level of local government in England. They help make decisions that affect the local community.

Village Life and Places to See

Hackleton has several important places for its residents. The village school is Hackleton CofE Primary School. There is also the Hackleton Carey Baptist Chapel. The Dudley Winterbottom Memorial Hall is a community building used for events. You can find a local shop called Hackleton Stores and The White Hart Pub.

The village also has 'The Rec', which is a local sports ground. It is the home field for the village football team, AFC Hackleton. There is a war memorial to remember those who served. You can also find a butcher shop and a small 'pocket' park. This park used to mark the boundary between Hackleton and Piddington. A stream called Wootton Brook flows nearby.

William Carey and the Chapel

The Hackleton Carey Baptist Chapel is very special. It was started by William Carey. He was an English Protestant missionary and Baptist minister. He is often called the "father of modern missions." Carey was one of the people who helped create the Baptist Missionary Society.

William Carey came to Hackleton to learn a trade as a shoemaker. He lived and worked here before he became famous. The Chapel is built near where he completed his apprenticeship. There is even a road in Hackleton named Carey Road, in his honor. An inscription on the chapel explains his connection to the village. It says he was converted to God and preached his first sermon in Hackleton.

Nearby Villages

The village of Piddington is very close to Hackleton. Piddington is home to the parish church, St John the Baptist. This church is part of the Living Brook Benefice. Piddington is also known for the Piddington Roman Villa, an ancient Roman site.

Future of Hackleton

There have been plans for more housing development around Northampton. This includes an area called "Preston Green." In 2008, there were plans for 13,500 new houses and other buildings. These developments would be in rural areas near Grange Park, Quinton, and Preston Deanery. Such large-scale growth could mean that Hackleton might become part of a larger urban area in the future.
