A Look Back: Halifax's History
Halifax has a long history! It was officially created, or chartered, on May 11, 1750. This means it was given permission to be a town by the government. It was the second town to be chartered west of the Connecticut River. This makes Halifax the second oldest town in the state of Vermont, right after Bennington. The town was named after George Montagu-Dunk, 2nd Earl of Halifax.
