Hamilton West is a busy and important area in the town of Hamilton, located in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It's a key part of the town, home to many important places and services.

Welcome to Hamilton West!
Hamilton West is about a 10-minute walk northwest of the main Hamilton town centre. This area is special because it holds many of the town's most important buildings and attractions.
What You'll Find Here
You can find many interesting places in Hamilton West. These include the main offices for South Lanarkshire Council, known as the county buildings. There's also a big shopping area called Hamilton Retail Park, which has a large Sainsbury's supermarket.
For sports fans, Hamilton West is home to New Douglas Park. This is the football stadium where Hamilton Academical F.C. plays their home games. There's also a Five-a-side football complex for smaller games. If you enjoy horse racing, you'll find Hamilton Park Racecourse here too.
Other important spots include the Hamilton Sheriff Court, where legal cases are handled. For fun, there's the Hamilton Water Palace, which is a swimming pool complex. You can also find many local shops, restaurants, and cafes, like Equi's Ice Cream parlour, which has been around since the 1920s!
Learning and Education
Hamilton West has some excellent schools. These include Holy Cross High School and the private school Hamilton College.
For many years, the Hamilton campus of the University of the West of Scotland was located here. It used to be the buildings of Bell College until 2007. The university used these buildings from 1972 until 2018. After that, the university moved to a new, modern campus at the Hamilton International Technology Park. This new campus is actually a bit outside the town, closer to Blantyre.
The old university site on Almada Street is now being planned for a new project. It might become a mix of offices, shops, homes, and a park area. This new development has the working name Hamilton Green urban village.
Getting Around Hamilton West
Hamilton West is easy to get to and from. The area has its own train station, Hamilton West railway station. From here, you can catch regular trains to nearby towns like Motherwell, Larkhall, and Lanark. You can also travel to Hamilton Central and the big city of Glasgow.
Buses also serve the area well. You can take a bus to other parts of Hamilton, as well as to East Kilbride and Glasgow.
Hamilton West and Local Government
Since 2005, a part of Hamilton West has been included in a UK Parliamentary area called Rutherglen and Hamilton West. However, most of Hamilton West, including all the public places mentioned above, is actually part of a different parliamentary area. This area is called Lanark and Hamilton East.
