Hamptonville is easy to reach because two major highways cross here: Interstate 77 and U.S. Route 421. These four-lane roads make it simple to travel to Charlotte to the south or Winston-Salem to the east. U.S. Route 21 also goes through Hamptonville.

Businesses and Growth

While the original village of Hamptonville is along US 21, the main activity happens at Brooks Crossroads and along Rocky Branch Road. This area has many businesses. You can find places to eat, general stores, gas stations, motels, and two very popular flea markets.

Companies like Blue Rhino, which distributes propane tanks, and Lydall Corporation, which makes car parts, have facilities here. These companies are big employers in the county. Because two busy highways meet here, more businesses are interested in coming to Hamptonville. The county has even worked to bring water, sewer, and natural gas services to some areas to help with growth.

Farming is a very important business in Hamptonville. Many farms grow crops like corn, tobacco, soybeans, and wheat. There are also many places that raise and process poultry and other livestock. Wineries have also become a popular attraction in the area.

The Hamptonville post office moved to the Rocky Branch Road 7-Eleven shopping center in 2007.

The West Yadkin Fire Department is located at Brooks Crossroads. This department handles fire, rescue, and other emergency calls for most of Hamptonville. They have about 30 members and several vehicles to help the community.

Hamptonville's Early Days

Hamptonville was first settled in the late 1700s and officially became a town in 1818. The heart of the early village was Flat Rock Baptist Church. This church is one of the oldest Baptist churches in western North Carolina, dating back to at least 1783. A historical marker stands at the church, which is still active today.

Near the church is the Hampton Family House, the oldest house in Yadkin County. It was built around 1757 by Thomas Hampton. His son, Henry Hampton, who founded Hamptonville, later owned it. The house has stayed in the same family for over 250 years! Today, it is owned by Adam Charles Pardue, the eighth generation of the family to live there.

The town used to have a well in the middle of the street. But it was covered over when U.S. 21 was built in 1940. The Hamptonville postal area also includes other historic communities like Brooks Crossroads and Buck Shoals.
