Haris Seferovic (born on February 22, 1992) is a Swiss football player. He plays as a striker for the club Al Wasl in the United Arab Emirates. He also plays for the Switzerland national team.
Haris started his professional career at Grasshopper in Switzerland. Later, he moved to bigger clubs like Fiorentina in Italy, Real Sociedad in Spain, and Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. He spent six successful years at Benfica in Portugal. There, he scored many goals and helped his team win the Primeira Liga title in 2019. He was even the top scorer in the league that year.
He has played for Switzerland in many big tournaments. These include the FIFA World Cup in 2014, 2018, and 2022. He also played in the UEFA European Championship in 2016 and 2020. He has played over 90 games for his country.

Club Career
Starting Out
Haris Seferovic began playing football in 1999 with the youth team of FC Sursee. After five years, he joined Luzern in 2004. He spent three years in their youth teams. Then, Grasshopper noticed his talent and signed him. He made his first professional game for Grasshopper in April 2009. This was in the Swiss Super League. In January 2010, he was named the Youth Player of the Year in his home area.
Playing in Italy
On January 29, 2010, Haris joined the Italian club Fiorentina. He was still very young, and the club assigned him to their youth team first. To gain more experience, he was loaned to other clubs.
In August 2011, he played for Neuchâtel Xamax in Switzerland on loan. In January 2012, he was loaned to Lecce in Italy. Later, he had a very good loan spell at Novara in the Serie B league. He scored 10 goals in just 18 matches there. This included three goals in one game against Livorno.
Moving to Spain
On July 11, 2013, Haris moved to Real Sociedad in Spain. He signed a four-year contract. He scored a great goal in his first game for them, helping his team win 2-0. A few days later, he scored another amazing goal in a UEFA Champions League qualifying match. He played in 24 league games in his first season. He scored a total of two league goals and one cup goal for Real Sociedad.
Time in Germany
On August 1, 2014, Haris joined Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. He signed a three-year contract with the club. He scored in his very first game for Frankfurt in a cup match. A week later, he scored the only goal in his first Bundesliga game, helping his team win.
In the 2015–16 season, he scored three goals in 29 games. His team finished 16th, which meant they had to play a special game to stay in the top league. Haris scored the winning goal in that game, keeping Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. He also helped his team reach the final of the German Cup in 2017.
Success in Portugal
On June 2, 2017, Haris signed a five-year contract with Benfica, one of Portugal's biggest clubs. He made his debut in a cup final and scored a goal, helping Benfica win 3-1.
In the 2018–19 season, Haris became a key player for Benfica. He was the team's top scorer and helped them win the Primeira Liga title. He scored important goals against rival teams like Porto and Sporting CP. He also scored a goal in the UEFA Europa League, helping Benfica win in Turkey for the first time. His 23 league goals made him the top scorer in the league, earning him the Bola de Prata award. He was the second Swiss player ever to be the top scorer in a foreign league.
After this amazing season, Haris signed a new contract with Benfica. In the 2020–21 season, he continued to score many goals, netting 22 times. However, in the 2021–22 season, he faced some injuries that limited his playing time.
Loan to Galatasaray
On June 19, 2022, Haris joined Galatasaray in Turkey on a loan deal. He played his first game for them in August. He scored his first goal for Galatasaray in a cup match in October.
Loan to Celta
On January 31, 2023, Haris was loaned to Celta Vigo in Spain for the rest of the season.
Playing in the UAE
On July 5, 2023, Haris Seferovic signed with Al Wasl in the United Arab Emirates.
International Career

Haris had a great start to his international career with the Swiss under-17 national team. He helped them win the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria. He was the top scorer in that tournament, scoring five goals. This included the winning goal in the final against the host country, Nigeria.
He made his debut for the senior Switzerland national team in February 2013. In his third game for the team, he scored the winning goal in a World Cup qualifying match against Cyprus.
World Cup and Euros
In June 2014, Haris was chosen for Switzerland's 2014 World Cup squad. In their first match, he came on as a substitute and scored the winning goal in the last minute against Ecuador.
He scored three goals during the qualifiers for UEFA Euro 2016. He was then selected to play in the Euro 2016 tournament in France.
Haris scored four more goals to help Switzerland qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He was part of the squad that played in the World Cup in Russia.
In November 2018, Haris scored three goals (a hat-trick) as Switzerland came back from being 0-2 down to beat Belgium 5-2. This win helped them top their group in the UEFA Nations League. He also played in the Nations League finals in 2019.
In June 2021, Haris played in UEFA Euro 2020. In the Round of 16 game against France, he scored two goals with his head. The game ended in a 3-3 draw, and Switzerland won on penalties. The next year, he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against Portugal in the Nations League. He also played in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
