The house was built for Francis Thomas Gregory. He was an explorer who traveled a lot in Western Australia. Later, he moved to Queensland and became an important government official.

Harlaxton House was also used as a summer home for Lord Lamington. He was the Governor of Queensland from 1896 to 1901. A railway station was even built nearby for his convenience.
Sadly, Harlaxton House is not in good condition today. This is partly because of blasts from nearby rock quarries.
