Heavenly Mountain Resort is a super fun place to ski and snowboard! It's located right on the border between California and Nevada. You can find it in the beautiful Lake Tahoe area, surrounded by the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Heavenly first opened its doors on December 15, 1955.
This amazing resort has 97 different ski runs and 30 lifts. These runs and lifts are spread out across both California and Nevada. Heavenly is known for having the highest peak in the Lake Tahoe area. Its highest point is 10,067 ft (3,068 m)!
Since 2002, Heavenly has been owned by a company called Vail Resorts. They manage many ski resorts. Heavenly gets a lot of snow, about 360 in (910 cm) each year. They also have one of the biggest snowmaking systems in America. This means they can make snow even when nature doesn't provide enough! The ski season usually runs from mid-November to mid-April.
Getting Around: Lifts at Heavenly
To get up the mountain, Heavenly uses many different types of lifts. Most of them are fast, detachable chairlifts made by a company called Doppelmayr. These lifts can unhook from the main cable at the top and bottom. This makes it easier and safer for you to get on and off. There are also some older, fixed-grip chairlifts. These lifts stay attached to the cable all the time.
One special lift is the Heavenly Gondola. It connects Heavenly Village, a fun area with shops and restaurants, directly to the ski resort. This makes it super easy to get to the slopes!
