Hinesburg is a town located in Chittenden County, Vermont, in the United States. It was named after Abel Hine, who was the town clerk. In 2020, about 4,698 people lived in Hinesburg.
The main part of Hinesburg, which is a smaller community within the town, is called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts separately for statistics. In 2020, this central area had 872 residents.

Hinesburg is in the southern part of Chittenden County. It shares a border with Addison County to the south. The town covers a total area of about 103.2 square kilometers (about 40 square miles). Most of this area is land, with a small amount of water.
The main community of Hinesburg is found in the middle of the town. It is located along Vermont Route 116 in the valley of the La Platte River. Route 116 goes north about 11 miles to South Burlington. It also goes south about 17 miles to Bristol.

Teacher Strike of 1985
In April 1985, teachers at Hinesburg Elementary School had a disagreement about their salaries. This led to a two-week strike. It was described as a very long and difficult teacher strike in Vermont's history.
Saputo Cheese Factory Fire
On September 29, 2008, the Saputo cheese factory in Hinesburg caught fire. Firefighters worked hard to put out the blaze. Unfortunately, many of their firefighting tools were ruined by hazardous chemicals stored at the factory. The factory was a major employer in the town. It was announced in October that the cheese factory would close.
