Hodge is a small, quiet community in the Mojave Desert in California. It's an "unincorporated community," which means it's a place where people live but it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. Instead, it's looked after by the larger San Bernardino County.
Hodge is located along the famous historic U.S. Route 66. This old road was once a major highway across America. It's also found near the Mojave River. Hodge is about 11 miles (18 km) southwest of Barstow. It sits north of the Victor Valley area.
A Journey Through Time: The History of Hodge
Hodge got its name from two ranch owners, Gilbert and Robert Hodge. In its early days, Hodge was an important railroad station. It provided water from wells that tapped into the Mojave River. The Mojave River usually flows underground in this desert area.
Hodge also served as a desert stop along U.S. Route 66. Travelers driving between Barstow and Victorville would often stop here. By 1952, Hodge became less active. However, new houses were built in the late 1980s, bringing new life to the community.
