The next month, Rune made his main draw debut at the French Open. He surprised 14th seed Denis Shapovalov in the first round. He then won his second title at the 2022 Stockholm Open, defeating top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas. The following week, he reached the final in Basel. These results helped him enter the top 20 rankings at No. 18.
Rune's biggest achievement came at the 2022 Rolex Paris Masters. He saved three match points in his first match. He then defeated four top-10 players in a row: Hubert Hurkacz, Andrey Rublev, world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, and Félix Auger-Aliassime. He reached his first Masters 1000 final. In the final, he beat defending champion Novak Djokovic to win his first Masters 1000 title. He was the youngest champion in Paris since 1986. Coaching Team Changes
Holger Rune is known for changing his coaches often. His childhood coach, Lars Christensen, was with him at the start of his professional career. In October 2022, Rune added Patrick Mouratoglou to his coaching team. They worked together for some time, splitting and reuniting a few times.
In October 2023, Rune hired Boris Becker as his coach. Becker encouraged Rune to try playing without a hat and jewelry during matches. Rune followed this advice at the 2023 Swiss Indoors in Basel and reached the semifinals. Becker and Rune continued their partnership into 2024. Severin Lüthi also joined Rune's team in December 2023 but left in January 2024. Becker also stopped coaching Rune in February 2024 due to other commitments.
Rune reunited with Patrick Mouratoglou in February 2024, but they parted ways again in July 2024. In August 2024, Rune hired Danish former player Kenneth Carlsen as his new head coach. Carlsen had already been helping Rune occasionally. In September 2024, Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh joined as a temporary coach. In October 2024, Rune announced that Lars Christensen had rejoined his team to work alongside Carlsen.
Playing Style and Equipment

Holger Rune is an all-court player. This means he can play well from all areas of the court. He has strong defensive skills. He uses a powerful forehand and a consistent backhand to move his opponents around. Fellow player Andrey Rublev described Rune as a player who "runs a lot" and "doesn't give you any rhythm." Rune often uses dropshots and hits with full power.
Rune uses a specific way to hold his racket for his forehand and backhand. His backhand is known for being very strong, especially when he returns the ball aggressively. He uses the Babolat Pure Aero 98 racket. Nike provides his clothing and shoes. He is also sponsored by Rolex for watches.
