Botic van de Zandschulp (born on October 4, 1995) is a professional tennis player from the Netherlands. He reached his highest singles ranking of world No. 22 on August 29, 2022. He is currently the second-highest ranked Dutch singles player. Botic also achieved a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 60 on May 22, 2023.

He won one singles title on the ATP Challenger Tour in Hamburg and one doubles title in Alphen. Botic became well-known at the 2021 US Open. He was one of only three players in US Open history to reach the quarterfinals after starting from the qualifying rounds. He also made it to his first ATP Tour final at the Bavarian International Tennis Championships in 2022.

Botic's Tennis Journey

Starting His Professional Career

Botic van de Zandschulp became a professional tennis player in 2016. He worked his way up through smaller tournaments before joining the main ATP Tour.

2021: Big Breakthrough at the US Open

In 2021, Botic played in the main part of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the Australian Open. He then played at the French Open and won his first Grand Slam match. He also got into Wimbledon as a "lucky loser" and won his first match there too.

His biggest moment came at the US Open. He was the only male player that year to get into the main draw of all four Grand Slams by winning qualifying matches. He surprised many by reaching the quarterfinals, beating higher-ranked players like Casper Ruud and Diego Schwartzman. He was the first Dutch man to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal since 2004. This amazing run helped him enter the top 100 players in the world for the first time. Later that year, he reached the semifinals at the 2021 St. Petersburg Open, beating world No. 6 Andrey Rublev.

2022: First ATP Final and Top 25 Ranking

Botic continued to play well in 2022. He reached the third round of the 2022 Australian Open, where he played against Daniil Medvedev. This helped him get into the top 50 players.

He had a great run at the Munich tournament, reaching his first ever ATP Tour singles final. He beat Casper Ruud and Miomir Kecmanović on his way to the final. Unfortunately, he had to stop playing in the final due to chest pain.

At Wimbledon, he reached the fourth round, which was his best result there. He also won his first ATP doubles title at the European Open with his partner Tallon Griekspoor. By the end of 2022, he was ranked in the top 25.

2023: Beating a Top 5 Player

In 2023, Botic reached his second ATP singles final, again at the Munich tournament. He also achieved a big win at the 2023 Miami Open. He beat Casper Ruud, who was ranked world No. 4 at the time. This was his first win against a player in the top 5. He also reached his first Masters 1000 doubles final at the 2023 Italian Open with Robin Haase.

2024: Davis Cup Finalist and Big US Open Win

In 2024, Botic helped the Netherlands reach the final of the Davis Cup for the first time in their history. In the quarterfinals, he famously beat Rafael Nadal in what was Nadal's last singles match of his career. Botic then teamed up with Wesley Koolhof to win the deciding doubles match against Spain. The Netherlands eventually lost to Italy in the final.

At the US Open, Botic had another memorable win. He defeated Carlos Alcaraz, who was ranked world No. 3 and was a former world No. 1. This was Botic's first win against a top 3 player and a Grand Slam champion.

2025: Another Top 10 Victory

In 2025, Botic continued to show his skill. At the Indian Wells tournament, he had a big upset win against former world No. 1 and five-time Indian Wells champion Novak Djokovic.
