Holiday Island is a special community in Carroll County, Arkansas, United States. It covers about 4,500 acres. This area was planned for people who are retired or on vacation.

Holiday Island used to be an unincorporated community, meaning it wasn't officially a town. But in November 2020, the people living there voted to become an official city. In 2020, about 2,533 people lived there.

Holiday Island is located in the beautiful Ozark Mountains. It sits right on Table Rock Lake. It's also close to fun places like Eureka Springs, Arkansas and about an hour away from Branson, Missouri. Other nearby cities include Fayetteville, Arkansas and Bentonville, Arkansas.

The community has grown a lot. This is partly because of big companies in Northwest Arkansas. These include Walmart, Tyson Foods, and J.B. Hunt. Fun attractions like the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and Pea Ridge National Military Park also bring visitors. The University of Arkansas also plays a role in the area's growth.

How Holiday Island Became a City

Holiday Island was first set up in 1970. It was created by the Holly Corporation and McCulloch Oil Corporation. They formed something called the Holiday Island Suburban Improvement District (HISID).

What HISID Does

The HISID was made to provide important services. These include:

  • Water
  • Sewer systems
  • Waste management
  • Fire services

It also helps maintain the roads and fun places in Holiday Island. Property owners pay annual fees to the HISID for these services.

Becoming an Official City

On November 3, 2020, people in Holiday Island voted. They decided to become an official town. On December 3, 2020, the Carroll County Judge made it official.

Then, on March 23, 2021, Holiday Island became a City of the 2nd Class. New city leaders started to set up the city government. They began making rules for building and planning. They also worked on creating voting areas for future elections.

Future Plans

The city will keep working with the HISID for now. This will continue until the city collects enough taxes. Once it has enough money, the city can provide services on its own. It will also be able to offer even more services.

Starting in 2021, the city began receiving its share of taxes. These include sales taxes, road taxes, and property taxes. This money helps the city take care of its older buildings and roads. It also helps keep the lifestyle the original planners wanted. This ensures that Holiday Island grows in a good way.
