Horsetrough Mountain is a cool mountain located in northeastern Georgia, USA. It stands tall with a summit elevation of about 4,045 feet (1,233 meters). This mountain is special because it is part of the Chattahoochee National Forest and the Mark Trail Wilderness.

Discovering Horsetrough Mountain

Horsetrough Mountain is found in both Union and White counties in Georgia. It is in the beautiful northeastern part of the state. This area is known for its amazing nature and forests.

The Eastern Continental Divide

One of the most interesting things about Horsetrough Mountain is that the Eastern Continental Divide crosses its peak. Imagine a line across the mountain. Water that falls on the south and east sides of this line flows towards the Atlantic Ocean. Water that falls on the north and west sides flows towards the Gulf of Mexico. It's like a giant natural split for water!

Rivers and Trails

Streams from Horsetrough Mountain help form the beginning of the famous Chattahoochee River. This river is very important to Georgia! Another river, the West Fork Little River, also gets some of its water from here.

The Appalachian Trail follows the main ridge of the mountain. However, it does not go directly over the very top of the summit. You can also find Horsetrough Falls on the southern side of the mountain.
