Icogne is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Sierre district of Switzerland. It's found in the beautiful Valais canton.

A Look Back: Icogne's History
Icogne was first written about in old documents way back in 1233. At that time, it was called Ucogni. A few years later, in 1249, its name was recorded as Ucogniez.
In 1905, Icogne became its own independent municipality. Before that, it was part of the nearby town of Lens.
Exploring Icogne's Geography
Icogne covers an area of about 24.8 square kilometers (9.6 square miles). A good part of this land is used for farming, about 14.5%. Forests cover a large portion, around 31% of the area.
About 2.5% of Icogne's land is built up with houses and roads. Rivers and lakes make up about 2.3% of the area. The largest part, over 50%, is unproductive land, meaning it's not used for farming or building. This includes rocky areas and places with sparse plants.
Icogne is located in the Sierre district. It sits between the towns of Ayent to the west and Lens to the east. The Lienne river flows on its left bank.
The municipality includes the main village of Icogne itself. It also has a part of the popular ski resort called Crans-Montana. The Lac de Tseuzier reservoir is found on the border with Ayent.
