Exploring Ider
Ider is located at 34°42′14″N 85°40′26″W / 34.70389°N 85.67389°W. It sits on top of a place called Sand Mountain. The town is just a few miles west of the border between Alabama and Georgia. Two main roads, Alabama State Route 75 and Alabama State Route 117, meet in Ider.
The town covers a total area of about 5.4 square miles (14.0 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

Ider has a climate with warm summers and mild winters. The hottest month is usually July, and the coldest is January. The town receives a good amount of rain throughout the year.
Education and Learning
Ider High School
Ider High School is part of the DeKalb County School System. For the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years, it is a 1A school. The current Principal is Tyler Brooks.
Ider Public Library
The Ider Public Library is located at 10808 AL HWY 75. The idea for a community library started around 1994 with the Ider Homemakers Club. The Ider City Council helped get grants to fund the library.
Fun Things to Do
Festivals and Parades
Ider used to have a festival called Mule Day on Labor Day. It featured horse and mule pulls, antique cars, food, crafts, and music. The Mule Day Parade also happened in September. These events were canceled as of 2017.
Ider still hosts two other annual parades:
- The Homecoming Parade usually takes place in October. It celebrates Ider High School's Homecoming football game.
- The Christmas Parade happens every December. The Ider High School Band often participates in this parade.
Local Attractions
The Ider Town Park is a great place to visit. It has a lighted walking trail for exercise and a picnic area. You can also find tennis courts, baseball fields, and a playground there. The park also has a stage where events can be held.

- Todd Greeson has been a member of the Alabama House of Representatives since 1998.
