What is the Ayrton Senna Institute?
The idea for the Instituto Ayrton Senna came from Ayrton Senna himself. He was a famous Formula One racing driver. Just two months before a sad accident in 1994, he talked with his sister, Viviane Senna. They wanted to start a charity to help children and teenagers in Brazil.
Ayrton's family started the Institute six months later, on November 20, 1994. Viviane Senna became its president. Since then, the organization has invested a lot of money. They have put over US$80 million into programs that help people. They do this by working with businesses and other NGOs.
Many famous people have supported the Institute. These include former Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone. Also, Williams team founder Sir Frank Williams has supported it. Former racing drivers Alain Prost and Gerhard Berger also recommend the Institute.
How the Institute Works with Others
The Instituto Ayrton Senna often partners with other groups. These partnerships help them reach more young people.
- In 2013, they teamed up with a Japanese company called Polyphony Digital. This company makes racing video games. They created an "Ayrton Senna Tribute" for the game Gran Turismo 6. This helped share Ayrton Senna's story with new generations.
- British car maker McLaren also worked with the Institute. They created a special sports car called the McLaren Senna. This car was made to honor Ayrton Senna. He had great success with McLaren in Formula One.
- The Institute has also made international partnerships. They have worked with groups in Singapore and Finland. These partnerships focus on important school subjects. They help improve learning in science, reading, and mathematics.
