Ivanna Sakhno is a talented actress and activist from Ukraine. She was born on November 14, 1997. You might know her from movies like Pacific Rim Uprising (where she played Cadet Viktoriya) or The Spy Who Dumped Me (as Nadedja). She also played Shin Hati in the 2023 TV series Ahsoka, which is part of the Star Wars universe. Before moving to the United States, Ivanna was already well-known in Ukraine. She appeared in the first-ever Ukrainian-language sitcom, Lesia + Roma, in 2005. She also starred in the 2013 movie Ivan the Powerful.

Ivanna Sakhno's Early Life
Ivanna Sakhno was born in Kyiv, Ukraine. Her parents, Halyna Kuvivchak-Sakhno and Anatolii Sakhno, are both filmmakers. Her mother is a director, and her father is a cinematographer.
Ivanna dreamed of becoming an actress after watching the movie Amélie in 2004. When she was 13, she moved from Ukraine to Vancouver, Canada, to study English. There, she was discovered by casting directors Janet Hirshenson and Jane Jenkins at a workshop. In 2013, Ivanna moved to Hollywood in the United States to start her acting career. She attended Beverly Hills High School and later studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
Ivanna Sakhno's Acting Career
Ivanna Sakhno first appeared on TV in 2005 in the series Lesya + Roma. This show was a Ukrainian version of a popular Canadian sitcom. Her first role in a movie was in 2013. She played a character named Milka in the film Ivan the Powerful.
Her first big role in Hollywood was in the 2016 thriller movie The Body Tree. After that, she appeared in two major films in 2018. These were Pacific Rim Uprising and The Spy Who Dumped Me.
Ivanna also helped judge film festivals. In 2019, she was a jury member for the International Competition Program at the 10th Odesa International Film Festival. In August 2020, she was on the jury for the 49th Molodist Film Festival.
In 2020, Ivanna appeared in her first American TV series. She acted alongside Zoë Kravitz in the Hulu show High Fidelity. That same year, she starred in the thriller movie Let it Snow. This film was directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Stanislav Kapralov. She also appeared in the 2022 French TV series The Reunion (also known as La jeune fille et la nuit).
In November 2021, Ivanna was chosen for a role in the Disney+ series Ahsoka. This series is part of the famous Star Wars story.
Ivanna Sakhno's Activism
Ivanna Sakhno is also known for her activism. At the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, she showed her support for Ukrainian political prisoners. These prisoners were being held by Russian authorities.
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022, Ivanna spoke out against Russia's actions. She publicly supported her home country. In February 2023, she gave a speech at The Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. to support Ukraine. In April, Ivanna talked about the Russo-Ukrainian War on the TV show Morning Joe. She explained how people in America could help Ukrainians affected by the war.
She also took part in an event called Artists for Ukraine. This event raised money by showing Ukrainian art. The money helped Ukrainian children who had to leave their homes because of the war. In May, she became an Ambassador for United24. This is Ukraine's official platform for raising money, and Ivanna helps with the Education and Science part of it.
Ivanna Sakhno tries to avoid playing Russian characters in her acting roles. During the time when many places were closed due to COVID-19, she even turned down a contract with Netflix. This contract would have required her to play a character with a Soviet Russian background.
