Becoming a K-pop Star
Starting Her Journey
Jeongyeon tried out for JYP Entertainment when she was a child, but she didn't get in that time. Later, in 2010, she tried again and was accepted! This audition was part of JYP Entertainment's 6th Annual Open Auditions. It included a two-week training camp and a final show.
During her training, she practiced with other hopeful trainees. Some of them later became famous in groups like BTS, BtoB, Wanna One, and WJSN. Jeongyeon trained for five years before she became a member of Twice.
In 2014, Jeongyeon was supposed to join a new girl group from JYP. Her future Twice bandmates Nayeon, Sana, and Jihyo were also part of this plan. However, that group project was canceled.
Joining Twice Through Sixteen
In 2015, Jeongyeon joined a TV show called Sixteen. This was a reality competition to decide who would be in the new group, Twice. In the very last episode, Jeongyeon was chosen as one of the nine members.

In 2020, Jeongyeon had a health issue with her back and had surgery. Later, in October 2020, JYP Entertainment announced that Jeongyeon would take a break to focus on her health. She returned to activities in January 2021. In August 2021, she took another break for her health. She fully returned to the group in February 2022. This was for the North American part of the Twice 4th World Tour "III". In 2022, Jeongyeon and all the other Twice members renewed their contracts with JYP Entertainment.
