Yoo Jeong-yeon, known simply as Jeongyeon (Hangul: 정연), is a singer from South Korea. She was born on November 1, 1996. Jeongyeon is a member of the very popular K-pop girl group called Twice. This group was created by JYP Entertainment.

Early Life and Family

Jeongyeon was born as Yoo Kyung-wan in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. She has two older sisters. One of her sisters is the famous actress Gong Seung-yeon. Her father was a chef who even worked for Kim Dae-jung, a former president of South Korea. When Jeongyeon was young, she took aerobics classes. This helped her become interested in singing and dancing.

Becoming a K-pop Star

Starting Her Journey

Jeongyeon tried out for JYP Entertainment when she was a child, but she didn't get in that time. Later, in 2010, she tried again and was accepted! This audition was part of JYP Entertainment's 6th Annual Open Auditions. It included a two-week training camp and a final show.

During her training, she practiced with other hopeful trainees. Some of them later became famous in groups like BTS, BtoB, Wanna One, and WJSN. Jeongyeon trained for five years before she became a member of Twice.

In 2014, Jeongyeon was supposed to join a new girl group from JYP. Her future Twice bandmates Nayeon, Sana, and Jihyo were also part of this plan. However, that group project was canceled.

Joining Twice Through Sixteen

In 2015, Jeongyeon joined a TV show called Sixteen. This was a reality competition to decide who would be in the new group, Twice. In the very last episode, Jeongyeon was chosen as one of the nine members.
