Jim's Amazing Adventures
At the start of the story, Jim helps his family run their inn. One day, a former pirate named Billy Bones stays there. Billy receives a scary message called the Black Spot. This means other pirates are coming for him. Billy soon dies, and Jim and his mother find a secret map in his old chest.
The map shows where the famous pirate Captain Flint hid his treasure. Jim, along with Dr. Livesey and Squire Trelawney, decides to go on an adventure to find it! They get a ship called the Hispaniola.
Meeting Long John Silver
Before they leave, Jim goes to Bristol. He meets a cook named Long John Silver. Silver is missing a leg, which makes Jim a little suspicious. But Silver is very charming and quickly earns Jim's trust.
The ship sets sail for the Caribbean Sea. As they get closer to the island, Jim hides in an apple barrel. He overhears Silver talking to some crew members. Silver admits he was Captain Flint's quartermaster. He plans to take the treasure for himself and his men! Jim quickly tells Captain Smollett and the others about the planned mutiny.
Exploring Treasure Island
When they reach the island, many of Silver's men go ashore. Jim goes with them but quickly runs away. Hiding in the woods, Jim sees Silver do something terrible. He murders a loyal crewman named Tom.
Jim runs for his life and meets Ben Gunn. Ben is another former crewman of Flint's. He has been stranded on the island for three years. Ben is kind to Jim and wants to return home.
Later, Jim joins his friends at a strong fort on the island. Silver and his pirates attack the fort. But Jim and his friends fight bravely and push them back!
Jim's Daring Plan
One night, Jim secretly leaves the fort. He takes Ben Gunn's small boat, called a coracle. Jim paddles out to the Hispaniola. He cuts the ship's anchor rope, letting it drift away from the pirates on shore.
The next morning, Jim gets back on the ship. Only one pirate is left alive: Israel Hands. Hands agrees to help Jim steer the ship to a safe beach. But as they get close, Hands tries to kill Jim! Jim has to defend himself and shoots Hands.
Finding the Treasure
The next day, the angry pirates turn on Silver and Jim. But Ben Gunn, Dr. Livesey, and their men surprise the pirates. They defeat them, and Silver gives up.
They all go to Ben Gunn's cave. Ben has been hiding the treasure there for months! The treasure is divided among them. One night, Silver escapes with some gold. Jim says he still has nightmares about Silver's parrot yelling, "Pieces of eight!"

Jim Hawkins also appears in Disney's 2002 animated movie, Treasure Planet. This film is a science fiction version of Treasure Island. In this story, Jim is a young boy who loves tales of pirates and hidden treasure on "Treasure Planet."
Years later, Jim is a teenager. He helps his mother run their inn. He also loves "solar surfing," which often gets him into trouble. One day, a spaceship crashes near the inn. The dying pilot gives Jim a mysterious sphere. He warns Jim to "beware the cyborg."
Soon after, pirates attack and burn the inn. Jim, his mother, and their friend Dr. Delbert Doppler escape. The sphere turns out to be a map to Treasure Planet!
Journey to Treasure Planet
Doppler gets a ship called RLS Legacy to find the planet. The crew is a mix of people, secretly led by the cook, John Silver. Jim suspects Silver might be the cyborg he was warned about.
Jim works in the ship's kitchen. Even though he doesn't fully trust Silver, they start to form a father-son bond. As the ship reaches Treasure Planet, a mutiny breaks out. Silver leads it! Jim, Doppler, and Amelia escape the ship, but they accidentally leave the map behind.
Silver has a chance to hurt Jim, but he doesn't. He has grown to care for the boy. While exploring the planet, Jim and his friends meet B.E.N., a funny robot who has lost his memory.
Escaping the Planet
The pirates soon find them. Jim and B.E.N. sneak back to the ship to get the map. But when they return, Silver captures them all.
Jim is forced to use the map. It leads them to a portal that can open to any place in the universe. The treasure is at the planet's center, reached through this portal. Inside the treasure stash, Jim finds a missing part of B.E.N.'s memory.
When Jim puts it back, B.E.N. remembers something important. The planet is set to explode after Flint found the treasure! In the chaos, Silver has to choose between saving Jim or keeping his gold. Silver saves Jim.
They all escape to the Legacy. The ship is damaged and cannot leave the planet in time. Jim uses a rocket to open the portal to his home world's spaceport. Everyone escapes just as Treasure Planet explodes!
A New Beginning
After their escape, Amelia has the remaining pirates arrested. She offers to recommend Jim for a special academy because of his bravery. Silver secretly prepares to escape. Jim finds him but lets him go. Jim inherits Silver's shape-changing pet, Morph.
Silver gives Jim some jewels and gold. This money helps rebuild Jim's family inn. The movie ends with a party at the rebuilt inn. Jim is now in a military uniform. He has changed his ways and is respected by everyone.
