Geoff James Nugent (born in February 1977), known as Jim Jefferies, is a comedian, actor, and writer from Australia and the United States. He created and starred in the TV show Legit from 2013 to 2014. He also hosted The Jim Jefferies Show on Comedy Central from 2017 to 2019. Since 2023, Jim has been the host of The 1% Club.

Early Life and Education
Jim Jefferies was born Geoff James Nugent in Sydney, Australia, in February 1977. His mother was a substitute teacher. His father worked as a cabinet maker and maintenance worker. Jim grew up in Sydney.
Later, he moved to Perth to study musical theatre and classical music. He attended the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. However, he left his studies a few months before finishing. Jim has two older brothers.
Comedy Career
Starting Stand-up Comedy
Jim Jefferies started his stand-up comedy career after leaving university. He first returned to Sydney, then moved to the United Kingdom. He chose the stage name "Jim Jeffries." He later changed the last name to "Jefferies" to avoid confusion with another performer.
He began by telling short, funny one-liners. Over time, he switched to telling longer stories and anecdotes in his shows. One of his first performances in the UK was in October 2003. This was at Birmingham's Glee Club as part of the Birmingham Comedy Festival.
Gaining International Attention
Jim first became known around the world in 2007. This happened after he was attacked on stage during the Manchester Comedy Festival. Footage of this event was included in his act. You can see it on his 2008 DVD called Contraband.
He became famous in the United States in 2009. This was after his first HBO special, I Swear to God, was released.
Major Comedy Festivals
Jefferies has performed at many big comedy events. These include the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Just for Laughs, and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He has also performed at music festivals like Reading and Leeds Festivals and Glastonbury Festival. His routines have been shown on Comedy Central shows like The World Stands Up and Comedy Blue.
After his Netflix special Freedumb came out in July 2016, he started The Unusual Punishment Tour. This tour featured all new jokes. He filmed his special This Is Me Now in London in January 2018. In December 2018, he finished his Night Talker Tour in Melbourne.
In 2019, Jim Jefferies was honored as Stand-up Comedian of the Year. This award was given at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal.
Recent Tours and Shows
In April 2024, Jefferies started his Give 'Em What They Want tour in South Africa. He then moved on to Australia in August 2024. In September and October 2024, he performed in Canada. During this time, he was joined by Jimmy Carr for The Charm Offensive Tour.
It was announced in November 2024 that Jefferies will host a stand-up series. This show, called Jim Jefferies and Friends, is set to air on the Seven Network in 2025.
Television Work
Legit TV Series
Jim Jefferies' comedy series Legit first aired on January 17, 2013, on FX. A second season started on February 26, 2014, moving to FXX. The show was praised for how it showed people with disabilities. The series ended after two seasons.
The Jim Jefferies Show
On March 3, 2017, Comedy Central announced The Jim Jefferies Show. This new weekly series had ten episodes and started on June 6, 2017. Jim Jefferies hosted the show. He discussed culture and politics from his desk. He also traveled to different places to cover important news and tricky topics.
The first season was extended with ten more episodes. These aired until November 21, 2017. In January 2018, Comedy Central ordered a second season with twenty episodes. This season began on March 27, 2018. The show was renewed for a third season in January 2019, which started on March 19, 2019. The Jim Jefferies Show finished on November 19, 2019, after its third season.
Other Projects
From November 2010 to November 2012, Jim Jefferies co-hosted a podcast. It was called Jim and Eddie Talkin'... with comedian Eddie Ifft. Jim had to leave the podcast because he became very busy with work.
Jefferies has appeared on several comedy panel shows. These include Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Have I Got News for You, and 8 Out of 10 Cats. He was also on the US show The Green Room with Paul Provenza and Comedy Central's @midnight. He has been featured on radio shows like BBC Radio 5 Live's sports show and Opie and Anthony.
In 2015, he starred in the Australian film Me and My Mates vs the Zombie Apocalypse. He acted alongside comedians Greg Fleet and Alex Williamson. The movie was released on DVD and Vimeo in Australia and New Zealand in late 2015. It came out in the UK, Ireland, and the US in 2016.
In 2019, Jefferies and Suzanne Martin created a sitcom for NBC called Jefferies. In this show, Jim plays a funny version of himself.
Since May 2020, Jefferies has hosted the I Don't Know About That podcast. He hosts it with Kelly Blackheart, Forrest Shaw, and Jack Hackett.
Jim Jefferies started a new podcast called 'At This Moment' with co-host Amos Gill on January 21, 2025.
Personal Life
Jim Jefferies lives in Studio City, California. He was previously in a relationship with actress Kate Luyben. Their son was born in 2012. Jim married English actress Tasie Lawrence in September 2020. Their son was born in 2021.
Jefferies is an atheist. He believes he is autistic and found out when he was 36 years old. In 2018, he became a citizen of the United States.
