Jonathan Osorio (born June 12, 1992) is a Canadian professional soccer player. He plays as a midfielder for Major League Soccer club Toronto FC, where he is a captain. He also plays for the Canada national team.
Osorio holds the club record for most appearances with Toronto FC. He also played for Canada in three matches at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Early Life and Soccer Start
Jonathan Osorio started playing soccer at age 10 with Brampton Youth Soccer. When he was 15, he joined Clarkson Sheridan SC. In 2010, he moved to Uruguay to play for the Nacional's youth academy. There, he played alongside Lucas Cavallini, who would later become his teammate on the Canadian national team.
Club Career Highlights
Starting with SC Toronto
Osorio began his professional career with SC Toronto in the Canadian Soccer League in 2012. He had a great first season, scoring many goals. He helped his team finish third in the league.
For his strong start, he was named the CSL Rookie of the Year.
Joining Toronto FC
Osorio joined Toronto FC in 2013. He trained with their youth team first. Then, he impressed the coach and earned a spot on the main team.
He played his first game for Toronto FC in Major League Soccer on March 9, 2013. He scored his first goal on March 30, 2013, against the Los Angeles Galaxy. His second goal came on April 27 against the New York Red Bulls. This goal was so good that it won the MLS Goal of the Week award!
After the 2013 season, Osorio trained with teams in Europe to improve his skills.
Key Seasons with Toronto FC
In the 2017 season, Osorio played less often. However, he started in important playoff games. Toronto FC won the 2017 MLS Cup that year, beating Seattle Sounders FC 2–0.
The 2018 season was very successful for Osorio. He scored 4 goals in the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League, winning the Golden Boot award. This means he was the top scorer in that tournament!
He also helped Toronto FC win the 2018 Canadian Championship. He scored three goals in the tournament and was named the most valuable player, winning the George Gross Memorial Trophy. In August 2018, he signed a new contract, becoming one of the highest-paid Canadian soccer players.
In 2019, Toronto FC reached the MLS Cup Final again. They lost to Seattle Sounders.
On April 24, 2022, Osorio made his 300th appearance for Toronto FC. He was the first player in the club's history to reach this milestone! At the end of 2022, he signed a new three-year contract. In 2024, he was named the club captain.
Playing for Canada
Osorio has played for Canada at different age levels. When he was 18, he played for the Canada U20 team in 2011.
He made his debut for the senior Canadian team on May 28, 2013. He has represented Canada in several major tournaments, including the CONCACAF Gold Cup multiple times (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023).
On January 22, 2017, Osorio scored his first goal for Canada in a friendly match against Bermuda.
A special moment came on October 7, 2021. He scored a goal against Mexico in a World Cup qualification match. This was the first time Canada had scored against Mexico at their famous stadium, Estadio Azteca, since 1980!
In November 2022, Osorio was chosen to be part of Canada's team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He played in all three of Canada's games at the tournament. In 2024, he was also named to Canada's squad for the 2024 Copa América.
Personal Life
Jonathan Osorio's parents are from Colombia. His father is from Cali, and his mother was born in Medellín. Jonathan has two younger brothers, Anthony and Nicholas, who also played soccer for Toronto FC II.
