About Josh Lucas
Early Life and Growing Up
Josh Lucas was born on June 20, 1971, in Little Rock, Arkansas. His mom, Michele, was a nurse midwife, and his dad, Don, was an ER doctor.
Josh grew up moving around a lot with his parents and three younger brothers and sisters. His parents were activists who spoke out against nuclear weapons. By the time he was 13, he had lived in 30 different places! His family eventually settled in Gig Harbor, Washington. He went to Kopachuck Middle School and graduated from Gig Harbor High School in 1989. While in high school, he enjoyed acting in school plays.
Starting His Acting Career
Josh Lucas began his acting career when he was 19 years old. After high school, he moved to Hollywood. In his early 20s, he appeared as a guest star on several TV shows. These included True Colors, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, and Life Goes On.
One of his first big projects was a TV movie called Class of '61. It was produced by Steven Spielberg. In this movie, Josh played a famous historical figure, George Armstrong Custer, as a young cadet.
Soon after, he made his first movie appearance in Alive. This film was about a group of rugby players whose plane crashed in the Andes mountains. After this, he moved to Australia for a short time to star in the TV series Snowy River: The McGregor Saga. He played Luke McGregor, an American cousin. Even though he liked working there, he missed the United States and eventually returned home.
Developing His Skills
When Josh returned to the U.S., he felt he was only being offered roles as high school or college boyfriends. He wanted more challenging parts. An older actor, George C. Scott, told him he should take acting lessons to improve his skills for both stage and screen. So, Josh left Hollywood and moved to New York City. There, he studied acting with different coaches.

This new phase of his career started with a lead role in the British film True Blue. He played a skilled rower who helped Oxford win a boat race. He then took on smaller roles in other dramas and comedies. He also acted in an off-Broadway play called Corpus Christi.
He soon started getting bigger roles in movies. These included American Psycho, The Weight of Water, and You Can Count on Me.
Mainstream Success
Josh Lucas became widely known after starring in movies like Sweet Home Alabama with Reese Witherspoon, A Beautiful Mind, and as Glenn Talbot in Hulk. He then took on leading roles in films such as Glory Road, where he played basketball coach Don Haskins. For this role, he gained 40 pounds! He also starred in Poseidon and Stealth.
In 2011, Josh co-starred in the Australian film Red Dog, which was based on a true story about a dog. He won an award for his performance in this movie. He also starred in the NBC TV show The Firm, which was based on a novel by John Grisham.
From 2014 to 2016, Josh was a main character in the NBC crime drama The Mysteries of Laura. More recently, from 2018 to 2022, he had a recurring role in the popular TV series Yellowstone. In this show, he played a younger version of the main character, John Dutton.
Josh also does voice-over work for commercials and other projects. He is also a co-owner of a company called Filthy Food.
