Kalraj Mishra (born 1 July 1941) is an important Indian politician. He served as the Governor of Rajasthan from 2019 to 2024. A governor is like the head of a state, similar to how a president is the head of a country.
Before this, he was the Governor of Himachal Pradesh. He also worked as a Cabinet Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Mishra was a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Deoria area in Uttar Pradesh. He served in the Lok Sabha, which is one of the two main parts of India's Parliament, from 2014 to 2019. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha, the other part of Parliament.
He also served as a MLA for the Lucknow East area. An MLA is a representative elected to a state's legislative assembly. He was also the head of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

About Kalraj Mishra
Kalraj Mishra was born on 1 July 1941. He was the fourth son in his family. His hometown is Malikpur in Ghazipur District. His father, Ramagya Mishra, worked as a teacher.
Mishra studied at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith in Varanasi. He earned his M.A. degree there. In 1963, he married Satyawati Mishra. They have two sons and one daughter.
His Political Journey
Kalraj Mishra began his political journey early. In 1955, he joined the RSS. This is a large volunteer organization in India. By 1963, he became a full-time worker for the RSS.
In 1977, he became the vice-president of the Janata Yuva Morcha. This was the youth group of the Janata Party. Later, in 1979, he was elected as its president. He was also the first national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. This is the youth wing of the BJP.
Roles in Parliament
Mishra was a member of the Rajya Sabha three times. He served in 1978, 2001, and 2006. The Rajya Sabha is like an upper house of the Indian Parliament.
He also held many important positions within his political party. He worked at both the state and national levels.
State Minister in Uttar Pradesh
From March 1997 to August 2000, Mishra was a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Uttar Pradesh. He was in charge of important departments. These included Public Works, Medical Education, and Tourism.
During his time as Public Works Minister, he started a big project. He wanted to make sure all state highways had no potholes. He also played a key role in creating the state of Uttarakhand. His efforts helped build a strong and capable organization.
Member of Legislative Assembly
In 2012, Mishra ran for the Vidhan Sabha election for the first time. He won the seat for the BJP from the Lucknow East area. As an MLA, he started many projects to help develop the area.
Union Minister and Governor
In 2014, Kalraj Mishra became a Member of Parliament from the Deoria area. After this, he was appointed a Cabinet Minister in the government led by Prime Minister Modi.
From May 2014 to September 2017, he served as the Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. This ministry helps small businesses grow.
In July 2019, he was appointed the Governor of Himachal Pradesh. Then, in September 2019, he became the Governor of Rajasthan. He served in this important role until July 2024.
