Early Life and Education
Kate Quilton grew up in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. She was the youngest of four children in her family. For her schooling, she went to Thurston Community College. Later, she studied at the University of Bristol.
Starting a Career in TV
While at the University of Bristol, Kate did a fun experiment. She ate only kebabs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a whole week! This interesting stunt even got noticed by a national newspaper.
Kate started working in television while she was still a student. She worked for big TV channels like ITV and the BBC. She spent a lot of time reporting on food, especially with farmers in Somerset. She was also the editor of the student newspaper, Epigram, at Bristol University.
From 2010 to 2014, Kate worked as a commissioning editor for Channel 4. This meant she helped decide which new shows and projects the channel would create. She even won a BAFTA award and a Digital Emmy award in 2014 for her work!
Becoming a Full-Time Presenter
In 2014, Kate left her job as a commissioning editor. She wanted to focus all her time on presenting Food Unwrapped. This show helps people understand what's really in their food.
She has presented many other popular shows too:
- In 2014, she appeared with Food Unwrapped co-presenter Jimmy Doherty in The World's Best Diet.
- From 2015, she presented Superfoods: The Real Story. This show looked at whether certain foods are as healthy as people think.
- In 2015, she co-presented The Shopper's Guide to Saving Money.
- From 2016, she presented Tricks of the Restaurant Trade with Simon Rimmer. This show revealed secrets about how restaurants work.
- In 2016, she also co-presented Be Your Own Doctor and took part in a special Christmas University Challenge episode.
- In 2017 and 2019, she presented Animal Rescue Live: Supervet Special with Noel Fitzpatrick and Steve Jones.
Personal Life and Family
In April 2016, Kate ran the London Marathon. She did this to raise money for Papworth Hospital, in memory of her father.
Kate married actor James Lance in 2016. In December 2017, she announced she was expecting her first child. Their son was born in May 2018. Kate also worked on a documentary called Breastfeeding Uncovered, which explored public attitudes towards breastfeeding.
