Kathryn Marie Hahn (born July 23, 1973) is an American actress and comedian. She is known for her many roles in both funny (comedy) and serious (drama) movies and TV shows.
Kathryn started her career on television. She played a character who helped people dealing with sadness in the TV show Crossing Jordan (2001–2007). She became more famous for her supporting roles in popular comedy films like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), and Step Brothers (2008). She also appeared in We're the Millers (2013) and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022).
As a main actress, Kathryn starred in the comedy-drama Afternoon Delight (2013) and the funny movies Bad Moms (2016) and its sequel A Bad Moms Christmas (2017). She also acted in serious films like Revolutionary Road (2008) and Captain Fantastic (2016). You might also know her voice! She voiced Ericka Van Helsing in the Hotel Transylvania movies (2018–2022) and Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018).

Early Life and Education
Kathryn Marie Hahn was born on July 23, 1973, in Westchester, Illinois. Her parents are Karen and Bill Hahn.
She grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and was raised in the Catholic faith. She went to St. Ann School and Beaumont School in Cleveland Heights. After high school, Kathryn went to Northwestern University, where she earned a degree in theater. She then continued her studies at Yale University, getting a master's degree in drama.
In 2024, Kathryn Hahn gave a speech to the graduating class at Northwestern University and received a special honorary degree for her achievements in arts.
Acting Career Highlights
Starting Out: 1999–2012
Kathryn's very first TV appearance was on Hickory Hideout, a children's puppet show in Cleveland. Later, she met a producer named Tim Kring, who was so impressed by her that he created a special character, Lily Lebowski, just for her in the TV show Crossing Jordan. This show ran from 2001 to 2007. Kathryn felt very lucky to get this role.
In 2003, she had a supporting role in the romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. She then appeared in several other movies, including Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) and Step Brothers (2008). She also acted in the drama Revolutionary Road (2008).
In 2008, Kathryn made her first appearance on Broadway, which is the highest level of theater in New York City. She starred in the play Boeing-Boeing as Gloria, an American flight attendant.
On television, she had a main role in the comedy series Free Agents in 2011. From 2012 to 2015, she was praised for her role as Jennifer Barkley in the popular comedy series Parks and Recreation. She even received an award nomination for her performance in that show.
Becoming a Star: 2013–2017
In 2013, Kathryn got her first main role in a movie, the comedy-drama Afternoon Delight. This movie was shown at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, a famous film event. She was nominated for an award for her acting in this film. That same year, she appeared in the hit movie We're the Millers and co-starred in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. In 2014, she was in the comedy Bad Words and the ensemble film This Is Where I Leave You.
Also in 2014, Kathryn joined the cast of the TV series Transparent. She played Rabbi Raquel Fein. Her performance earned her an Emmy nomination in 2017.
In 2015, Kathryn starred in the horror movie The Visit, which was very successful at the box office. She also appeared in the science-fiction adventure film Tomorrowland.
In 2016, Kathryn was in the drama film Captain Fantastic and the comedy Bad Moms. Critics really liked her performance in Bad Moms, and the movie made a lot of money. Because it was so popular, a sequel, A Bad Moms Christmas, was made and released in 2017, also doing very well.
Recent Work: 2018–Present
In 2018, Kathryn starred in the drama film Private Life, where her acting received great reviews. That same year, she lent her voice to two animated movies from Sony Pictures Animation. She voiced Ericka Van Helsing in Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation and Dr. Olivia "Liv" Octavius (Doctor Octopus) in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
In 2019, Kathryn starred in and produced the HBO miniseries Mrs. Fletcher, where her performance was highly praised. In 2020, she starred in another HBO drama miniseries, I Know This Much Is True. She also began voicing Paige Hunter in the animated musical comedy series Central Park on Apple TV+.
A big moment for Kathryn came in 2021 when she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She starred in the Disney+ series WandaVision as Agnes, a mysterious neighbor who was later revealed to be Agatha Harkness. This role earned her a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award. She then starred in The Shrink Next Door on Apple TV+. In 2022, she appeared in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, a popular mystery film.
Kathryn continued her role as Agatha Harkness in the WandaVision spin-off series, Agatha All Along, which started in 2024. For this role, she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. In 2023, she starred as Clare Pierce in the Hulu limited series Tiny Beautiful Things, based on a popular book, and received another Emmy nomination for her lead role.
Personal Life
Kathryn Hahn is married to actor Ethan Sandler. They met while attending Northwestern University. They live in Los Angeles and have two children.
