The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards celebrated the best TV shows and performances from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences chose the winners. The big awards show happened live yesterday, on September 14, 2025, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California. You could watch it on CBS and Paramount+. Comedian Nate Bargatze was the host for the evening.

The list of nominees for these awards was shared on July 15, 2025. Actors Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song helped announce them. The show Severance received the most nominations overall, with 27! The new comedy series The Studio made history with 23 nominations, becoming the most-nominated first-year comedy ever. It even beat the record set by Ted Lasso a few years ago.

Exciting Emmy Records and Winners

This year's Emmys saw some amazing achievements! Sterling K. Brown received his 11th nomination, tying a record for Black male performers. At 77, Kathy Bates became the oldest nominee for Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Bella Ramsey became the youngest person to be nominated twice for Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Bella is also the first non-binary person to get more than one acting Emmy nomination.

Ayo Edebiri made history as the first Black woman nominated for both acting and directing in the same year. She also became the youngest Black woman to earn three acting nominations in her career. A big congratulations goes to Owen Cooper, who, at just 15 years old, became the youngest winner for Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for his role in Adolescence. Also, for the first time ever, every team nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series included at least one woman!

The show The Studio was a big winner, taking home four awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series. Seth Rogen won for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his part in the show. Adolescence also did very well, winning six awards, including acting awards for Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty. The Pitt was named Outstanding Drama Series, and Noah Wyle won his first Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role in it.

Behind the Scenes of the Emmy Show

Nate Bargatze
Nate Bargatze was the host of the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced earlier this year that the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards would take place on September 14. CBS broadcast the show, as part of a plan where different big TV networks take turns airing the Emmys each year. You could also stream the ceremony live on Paramount+. Jesse Collins Entertainment produced the show for the third year in a row. Comedian Nate Bargatze was chosen to host the event.

The show began with a funny skit featuring Nate Bargatze and other comedians like Bowen Yang. They joked about how television was invented. The ceremony also celebrated some classic TV shows! Reba McEntire and others sang the theme song from The Golden Girls to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Stars from Gilmore Girls, Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, reunited to mark their show's 25th anniversary. Even actors from Law & Order and SVU came together to honor the original Law & Order series' 35th anniversary.

Nate Bargatze also announced a generous donation of $100,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He made it fun by saying that for every second a winner's speech went over 45 seconds, $1,000 would be taken away. But if they finished early, $1,000 would be added! In the end, CBS donated the full $100,000, and Nate added an extra $250,000 himself!

In Memoriam Tribute

The ceremony included a special "In Memoriam" tribute. Singers Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson performed an extended version of Gill's song "Go Rest High on That Mountain". They honored many people from the television world who passed away.
