Noah Strausser Speer Wyle (born June 4, 1971) is an American actor, writer, producer, and director. He is famous for playing Dr. John Carter in the medical TV show ER from 1994 to 2005. For this role, he was nominated for many awards, including five Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards. He also won four Screen Actors Guild Awards with the cast of ER.

More recently, Noah Wyle won two Emmy Awards for his work on the medical drama The Pitt on HBO Max. He was recognized for his acting as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch and for being an executive producer.

He is also well-known for playing Steve Jobs in the TV movie Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999). Kids might also know him as Flynn Carsen in The Librarian movies and TV series (2004–2018). He also starred as Tom Mason in the sci-fi series Falling Skies (2011–2015). Noah Wyle has also appeared in movies like A Few Good Men (1992) and Donnie Darko (2001).

Early Life and Education

Noah Wyle was born in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, on June 4, 1971. His mother, Marjorie Speer, was a nurse. His father, Stephen Wyle, was an electrical engineer. Noah's grandparents were also important people in Los Angeles. His grandfather, Frank Wyle, started an aerospace company. His grandmother, Edith R. Wyle, was a painter and founded a museum.

Noah spent time at his grandparents' large cattle ranch in North Fork, California. He grew up with a mix of city and country life. His parents separated when he was six, and both later remarried. His stepparents, Deborah and James C. Katz, also influenced him. His stepfather worked at Universal Studios, where a young Noah sometimes helped on movie sets.

Noah attended elementary and middle school in Los Angeles. He then went to The Thacher School, a boarding school in Ojai, California. This school was known for its horseback riding program. Noah found some subjects, like math and science, challenging. He later thought he might have had undiagnosed mild ADHD.

He discovered his love for acting in high school. He performed in, wrote, and directed school plays. After attending a theater program at Northwestern University, he decided to become a professional actor. He was the first in his family in a long time not to go to college right after high school.

Starting His Acting Journey

After high school in 1989, Noah Wyle moved to Hollywood to pursue acting. He took acting classes and worked as a waiter to support himself. His first small role was in the TV miniseries Blind Faith (1990). He then appeared in the family drama Crooked Hearts (1991).

One of his early notable roles was in the movie A Few Good Men (1992). This popular courtroom drama was directed by Rob Reiner. Noah Wyle played a small but memorable part as a Marine corporal. The film was very successful and was even nominated for an Academy Award.

In 2011, Noah Wyle took on a new main role in the sci-fi series Falling Skies (2011–2015). He played Tom Mason, a history professor fighting aliens in a post-apocalyptic world. Steven Spielberg, who produced the show, had wanted to work with Noah for a long time. Noah also directed an episode of Falling Skies.

He then returned to the Librarian world with the TV series The Librarians (2014–2018). Noah Wyle is now married to actress Sara Wells. They married in 2014 and have a daughter, Frances Harper Wyle (born 2015).

Activism and Community Work

Noah Wyle has used his platform to support important causes. From 2002 to 2005, he was on the board of the Screen Actors Guild, which is a union for actors. In 2023, he actively supported actors and writers during their strikes, advocating for fair treatment. In 2025, he supported a campaign to keep film and TV production in Los Angeles.
