Katie Stevens (born December 8, 1992) is a talented American actress and singer. She became well-known after appearing on the TV show American Idol. Katie finished in eighth place during the ninth season of the popular singing competition.

Later, she became famous for her acting roles. She played Karma Ashcroft in the TV series Faking It. She also starred as Jane Sloan in the hit show The Bold Type.

Early Life and Growing Up

Katie Stevens grew up in Middlebury, Connecticut. Her parents are Mark and Clara Stevens. She finished high school at Pomperaug High School in Southbury in June 2010. In 2009, she was named the Westbury Outstanding Teen.

Katie's mother's family is from Portugal. Katie can speak Portuguese. She helped create the Evan Gagnon Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund gives college money to students from her high school. It honors Evan Gagnon, a young boy who passed away.

Katie was also on her high school's swim team for four years. She first sang for an audience when she was just five years old. She sang the national anthem at a party in her hometown.

When she was seven, she sang "From This Moment On" at her aunt's wedding. Katie loved performing in local theater shows. She played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. She also played Sharpay in High School Musical. At age 13, she even performed at Carnegie Hall, a very famous concert hall.

On August 13, 2009, Katie tried out for American Idol in Boston. She sang "At Last" and all four judges liked her performance. They sent her to Hollywood for the next round. Judge Kara DioGuardi said Katie was one of the most talented 16-year-olds she had ever seen. In Hollywood, Kara even predicted Katie could win the show!

Her Time on the Show

Katie made it far in the competition. On March 24, 2010, she was in the bottom three contestants. But she was safe and got to join the American Idol summer tour. The judges often told her to work on her singing pitch. They also suggested she pick songs that fit her age and style better.

When she sang "Chain of Fools", Kara DioGuardi said Katie had found her style: R&B-pop. But she still needed to act more her age. After singing "Let It Be", the judges saw a big improvement. Ellen thought Katie would not be in the bottom three after that. Simon said she had become more "Country." But Kara and Randy thought she was more R&B.

Katie was eliminated from American Idol on April 14. She was eliminated along with Andrew Garcia. After the show, Katie went on the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2010. She performed songs like "Here We Go Again" and "Fighter" for fans.

After American Idol, Katie appeared on several talk shows. She sang "Over the Rainbow" on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She also performed on the Late Show with David Letterman. By late 2010, she had written nine songs.

In 2012, Katie played the main role in a popular YouTube video called "Beauty and the Beat." She also acted in a stage musical called Bare: A Pop Opera in 2013.

Starring in TV Series

Katie got a big role as Karma Ashcroft in the TV show Faking It. The show started in April 2014. In 2015, she also played Lindsey Willows in the CSI finale movie, Immortality.

In 2016, Katie was cast as Jane Sloan in The Bold Type. This show premiered in June 2017. It was very popular and ran for five seasons.

Personal Life

In October 2019, Katie Stevens married musician Paul DiGiovanni. They had been dating for over five years. The couple lives in Nashville, Tennessee. In February 2023, they welcomed their first child, a daughter.
